This is a fast 142bpm techno-industrial club banger, which should be playing at every dark electro club, because whenever we did club tests, the song got one of the fullest dancefloors of the night – despite being completely unknown.

I DON’T RECOGNIZE THAT GUY

Last week we shot some video scenes of me for the "Goth Rave" video.

We shot a simple light setup in front of a black background and I contemplated wearing sunglasses for a Faderheas shoot again for the first time since 2017.

Just out of curiosity I ran a small poll on my WhatsApp group where I outlined the situation and asked:

As you can see over 93% said "yes, sunglasses" – so I felt confirmed in my idea to do a little throwback look. Also because the song is a fast and heavy club banger, so I thought going back to a pair of nice shades would be a good idea.

OR MAYBE NOT?

The interesting situation happened when I looked at the video footage the next day:

1) it didn’t look fitting for the video at all, because the whole light setup was too flat and I had made bad conceptual decisions

2) I did not recognize the guy with the sunglasses. This person was simply not me anymore.

Here’s a random picture of my yelling along to the song:

I really like the look of these sunglasses!

They look expensive, they have a good shape for my face and I like wearing them outside when it’s sunny and I am just doing normal things.

BUT:

The 2006-2016 "Faderhead-with-shades" character is utterly weird to me. The gestures, the mannerisms – everything.

The interesting part is that I then later decided to use live footage from our show at E-Tropolis 2022 in the "Goth Rave" video and the guy in that video looked familiar to me.

This is such an interesting development to me, because today I seem to be less familiar with the guy who needed sunglasses for a look (and as a shield), while I am at ease with a guy who had 8kg/20lbs of extra covid weight and tired eyes.

WHAT DOES HE HAVE TO HIDE?

When I looked at my newly shot sunglasses footage, I thought

"Hmm, maybe that’s why in recent years, I’ve always chuckled when I saw anyone wearing sunglasses in music videos?"

Because whenever I saw that, all I could think of was:

"What is he/she trying to hide from?"

and

"Wearing sunglasses is so bad for establishing an emotional connection!"

BEING FREE

When I started seeing my therapist in 2016, one of the things she said was

"One of the things I want for you is to not be forced into certain learned behaviors, but to be able to choose if you want to act like that"

And one of the first things I thought when writing this newsletter was

"Oh, it looks like I am free of whatever made me choose my behaviors back then".

But the more I thought about it, the less sure I am that I am now free to choose my behavior. Maybe I am now NOT free to "act like the sunglasses guy" for whatever reason.

This is very interesting to me, which means that I will re-try the sunglasses look in the future to see how I feel about it then. Cause maybe it was just the ill-concepted lighting design that made everything weirder than it should have been.

I mean: I surely look better with sunglasses!

The question is: how do I wear sunglasses and act in a way that isn’t borderline goofy, while I turn 49 next week.

Or maybe there simply is no way – unless I have to pretend for the sake of the art/product that comes out.

Finding freedom’s not as easy as it sounds.

Anyway, that’s it from me!

When it came to the process of recording and putting all the pieces together, the band did not change a lot compared to the last projects. Again the music was written, recorded, and produced by MAJESTICA themselves. "Like our previous albums this one is also produced by ourselves, and we recorded most parts in our new place ”Majestic Studios”. For mixing we went back to Jonas Kjellgren as we have been very happy with the sound of ’A Christmas Carol’ and ’Metal United’ says bassist Chris Davidsson. Regarding the amazing artwork for Power Train, Chris explains: "For the artwork we teamed up with Jan Yrlund / Darkgrove design. It invites you to join this majepic ride of the Power Train, imagine standing there on the platform eagerly waiting, and you hear ”all aboard”!".

Shortly before the release of their new album, MAJESTICA will play a few shows, perfect to warm up for the upcoming album. The tour, which is called ‘The Dead Don’t Die Tour‘, kicks off on December 26th in Nürnberg, Germany. Along with headliners DOMINUM and support HAMMER KING, the Swedes are going to stop in seven cities. Furthermore, MAJESTICA will play a festival show at ‘No Sleep After X-Mas Festival’ in Runkel with some extra focus on their Christmas album A Christmas Carol on December 29th.

Ahead of their next studio album, Saddiction, due on 14th February 2025 via Nuclear Blast, French doom metal pioneers HANGMAN´S CHAIR are back in full force with ‘Kowloon Nights‘. This powerful, shoegaze-influenced track, with its disconcerting guitar riff, is a direct reference to the city destroyed in the 90s.

HANGMAN’S CHAIR comments about Saddiction: "SADDICTION is the contraction of 2 words, sadness, and addiction. It means the addiction to sadness. 7th effort of the band, for us, Saddiction is the second album of the new trilogy that started with A Loner back in 2022 and it’s the logical continuity. Following the release of the extended version of their 2023 Projekt album Sentimental Craving For Beauty, the duo of Vif Nüte and Bes Eirid returns with a new video, the live version of their song "My Blues” performed this summer at May Dec Studio in Vanadzor, Armenia. This version (which is featured in the 26-track Deluxe Edition of the album), showcases the band in primal minimalist form. The already ascetic arrangement undergoes several more layers of purification allowing Bes and Vif to perform the song with the minimum involvement of pre-programming. (Despite their inclination to electronic music, in their live performances VEiiLA relies on a limited number of instruments which, apart from the sequenced drum-machine, are all hand-played). This spartan approach results in an even more intimate and spacey sound.

The visuals represent VEiiLA’s fondness for noir-ish atmosphere, which in this case is attained by the grainy dark ambiance and cold cubist interior of the room, as well as nervous camera movements that jump between close-ups and long shots, bringing to mind the work of Anton Corbijn.

Inspired by the emotionally charged, quiet/loud and sometimes frenetic dynamics of the late ‘90s/‘00s US alternative/emo scene, Bristol based alt-rock band Our Nameless Boy bring their own brand of raucous energy to their performances, with songs that are hard hitting and subtle in their intricacies.

New single ‘Mr Right’ was the band’s first attempt at writing about all the wonderful quirks of human interaction in the 21st century, with the main hook for the song, coming from a conversation with a family member about news item and current affairs.

Vocalist, Iain Gorrie shares, “For the most part Mr Right digs into how we all entrench our own views all too deeply to ever learn and grow positively. The lyric, “You could tell me that it’s not worth my time”, can be “finished” with “… to try to change my mind”, for example. I tried to add a more positive idea as to how we can acknowledge each other’s opinions or feelings during discourse in the middle section of the song, but then ultimately the message falls on deaf ears as the chant and chorus come back in.”

On the day of the single release, Our Nameless Boy, will host a unique ‘An evening with’ styled event at Common Room Bath as part of the ‘On The Rocks’ event which sees the band perform an intimate set alongside making cocktails behind the band.

Whilst the album (‘Colour from the Doves’, 2021) provides a deeply personal account of a Iains’ battle with cancer, more recently Our Nameless Boy have set their sights more outwardly, attempting to make sense of the modern human condition through narratives intended to inspire empathy and self-reflection both in themselves and others.

Ebm bass, synthpop melodies, some metal rattle and a text about one of the most fatal issues of our time – the climate crisis. It’s a summary of Proletarian Poetry’s latest song release Panic and Fear (release date on Bandcamp October 29th, other streaming services November 1st).

Proletarian Poetry’s goal is to make synth with attitude, both musically and lyrically.

The musical inspiration comes from Proletarian Poetry’s "childhood" in the early 1990s when the musical conditions were limited by both economics and technology, with the goal of developing the sound and creating something that at least partially sounds new.

The music is combined with lyrics about current social issues, such as war and peace or the climate crisis, which are the subject of Panic and Fear.

Parts of the chorus in Panic and Fear consist of a quote from a speech at the UN by a well-known Swedish climate activist.

Background

Proletarian poetry was originally a music project based in the dark forests in northern Sweden in the 1990s. In the fall of 2023 we decided to recreate the project, now based in Gothenburg, and make new music.

Since February 2024, the songs of Proletarian Poetry have been played by several radio shows and pod channels in Sweden, England, US, Australia, France, Germany, Spain and Portugal. One song will also be on the exclusive CD accompanying the next issue of the Swedish Svartpunkt Magazine.
