KLACK, Wisconsin’s beloved retro-industrial/EBM duo, return with their yearly tradition: dropping a brand-new cover track that no one sees coming — but everyone ends up obsessed with. For 2025, they’ve gone full Midwest-goth by reimagining Gordon Lightfoot’s iconic “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.”

The choice wasn’t random. Today marks the 50-year anniversary of the ship’s tragic sinking on Lake Superior, a moment forever etched into Great Lakes history. Originally, the band had another track in mind — but then Eric had a brilliantly twisted idea: “Why not KLACK-ify one of the most haunting folk ballads ever written?”

Given their Wisconsin roots, the decision clicked instantly. Not many classic songs honor “Cheeseland,” and even fewer lend themselves so perfectly to KLACK’s signature blend of body-moving beats, coldwave grit, and nostalgic machine-soul swagger. The result? A dark, driving, reverent tribute that transforms a folk elegy into a steel-stomp industrial anthem.

A fierce and electrifying new chapter for one of industrial rock’s most iconic voices.

The Evolution of an Icon

Lucia Cifarelli has long been a dominant force in industrial and electronic rock, celebrated worldwide for her unmistakable voice, razor-sharp delivery, and magnetic stage presence. Many know her as the powerhouse vocalist of KMFDM, a role she has commanded since joining the band at the dawn of the 2000s. Over more than two decades and twelve albums, Cifarelli has become one of the group’s core creative engines — shaping their sound, penning lyrics, and helping define the sonic identity of one of industrial music’s most enduring names.

Roots in Rebellion

Before conquering the industrial world, Cifarelli’s first chapter unfolded with Drill, the explosive mid-’90s band she founded after stepping away from traditional paths and leaning into raw, aggressive expression. Drill toured with titans like Stabbing Westward, Marilyn Manson, Genitorturers, and Gang of Four, leaving an imprint on the era’s darker, heavier underground. Although short-lived, Drill served as a creative forge — a necessary evolution that ultimately led to her alliance with KMFDM architect Sascha Konietzko.

A Solo Legacy of Fire and Fearlessness

Outside her work with KMFDM, Cifarelli has built a potent solo career. Since 2007, she has released three albums that explore a more personal, introspective, and experimental side of her artistry. Her 2021 Metropolis Records release I Am Eye captured hearts with its blend of empowerment, grit, vulnerability, and stomping electronic intensity. One of its standout tracks, the bold and anthemic “Girls Like Me,” originally dropped just ahead of the album’s release — instantly positioning itself as a rallying cry of defiance and individuality.

Now, “Girls Like Me” is reborn.

Las Vegas/Los Angeles–based DJ and producer alleykat, known for crafting emotionally charged progressive house and melodic techno, delivers a massive, cinematic remix that injects new pulse into Lucia’s fire. The remix elevates the original into something bigger, brighter, and club-ready — a sweeping journey of rhythm, atmosphere, and empowerment.
