Carpenter Brut Ignites a Neon-Drenched Uprising with New Single “Leather Temple” — The First Strike of His Final Leather Trilogy Chapter 💀

French synthwave titan Carpenter Brut has returned, tearing open the next chapter of his dark cinematic universe with the release of “Leather Temple,” the first single from the third and final installment of his legendary Leather trilogy, arriving in 2026. Brut’s newest offering is a serrated collision of abrasive beats, metallic tension, and dystopian world-building—his most ambitious vision yet.

Directed by Dehn Sora, the accompanying video introduces Midwichpolis, a scorched post-nuclear metropolis reborn from the ashes of 2077. This sprawling nightmare city forms the narrative backbone of the new album.

At its core stands the monolithic Temple, a blackened tower piercing the skyline like a ceremonial blade. It serves as the throne of Iron Tusk, the brutal ruler whose empire thrives on fear, propaganda, and decadence. While the upper sectors—known as the City of Light—bathe in neon excess, holographic glamour, and grotesque luxury, the truth is far more rotten. Below the shimmering facade stretch the Midwich Slums, a labyrinth of ruin, poverty, and perpetual surveillance. Here, rebellion simmers. Here, the shadows swallow the innocent whole.

Leather Temple” channels this tension directly into sound. Its steel-sharpened beats and heavy metal-kissed riffs echo the rage of the oppressed, while blistering neon synths reflect the glowing corruption above. Saturated in 90s electro grit and soaked in dystopian atmosphere, the track stomps forward with distorted aggression and relentless propulsion—classic Carpenter Brut, but fiercer, darker, and even more cinematic.

Since erupting onto the scene in 2012, Carpenter Brut has fused metal, dark electronic music, and ‘80s pop culture into his own unmistakable universe—equal parts John Carpenter, Dario Argento, Slayer, and Justice. The Leather trilogy has become a modern mythos:
Leather Teeth (2018) — a glam-rock-infused neon nightmare
Leather Terror (2022) — a brutal slasher odyssey following anti-hero Brett Halford
The forthcoming final chapter — the ultimate crescendo of this filmic saga

Carpenter Brut’s live spectacle continues to evolve alongside the narrative, and he has announced extensive European and U.S. dates for March 2026, including a massive North American co-headline run with HEALTH.

⚔️ Perturbator Declares a New Era with “Age of Aquarius” — Album Drops October 10

The synthwave overlord returns with a cyber-apocalyptic journey featuring Ulver, Alcest, and Author & Punisher

French darksynth icon Perturbator (James Kent) has announced his upcoming full-length album, Age of Aquarius, set for release on October 10, 2025 via Nuclear Blast Records. This will mark his debut on the legendary metal label, and the album’s thematic focus splits between misanthropy and violent collapse on one side… and the flames of free will on the other. Welcome to the revolution.

💥 Apocalypse Now: The First Strike

The album’s first single, “Apocalypse Now,” is a brooding, cinematic track featuring a powerful guest appearance from Ulver’s Kristoffer Rygg. The accompanying music video—directed by longtime visual collaborator David Fitt—offers a stark and surreal visualization of society spiraling into chaos.

“The first half of the album explores misanthropy and violence,” Kent explains. “The second half reflects the strength of the individual and the rejection of the herd.”

🧠 Themes of War, Rebirth, and Autonomy

Across its 11 tracks, Age of Aquarius takes listeners through war-torn dreamscapes, haunted cityscapes, and introspective spirals. Kent, known for his genre-bending fusion of synthwave, industrial, and post-punk, goes deeper than ever into existential and societal fractures. It’s as philosophical as it is visceral.

Guest collaborations read like a who’s who of dark sonic alchemy:

  • Ulver lends apocalyptic vocals on “Apocalypse Now”

Critics Rave About “Prophecy” 🔥📢

🔥 Decibel Magazine“Hellish blasts of blackened industrial like ‘Death In Bloom’ and ‘Digital Death’ harken back to the digital demonology of 2018’s ‘Possessor.’ While harshness eclipses hooks, mascara traces remain: ‘Widow Song’ enjoys the silence of humanity’s demise.”

🔥 Revolver Magazine“Bewitching black-metal hisses laid over thumping darkwave synths and thwacking industrial drums. A match made in Hell.”

🔥 Kerrang!“The world his music inhabits is nocturnal and sinister, bathed in crimson neon; while its electronic beats might point a bony finger in the direction of the dancefloor, the environment it portrays is more ritual than rave…’

🔥 No Clean Singing“GOST provides both synth and metal purists a focal point to indulge upon with hellish glee. ‘Prophecy’ will no doubt go down as a stylistic staple, an example of how to make immense music of infinite flavors that pulverizes all fortunate enough to be in its wake.”

Massive Ego Return with Dark yet Hopeful Single and Music Video: “(My) Death Song”

Release Date: February 6, 2025
Label: Out Of Line Music

Massive Ego, the UK-based dark synth-pop band, is back with their striking new single, “(My) Death Song”. Accompanied by an emotionally charged music video, the track offers listeners a bold evolution in sound—combining dark themes with an unexpected message of hope and self-reflection.

“I’m bruised, but I’m alive,” declares frontman Marc Massive in one of the standout lyrics, setting the tone for a song that journeys from vulnerability to defiance. Opening with softer vocals, the track lures listeners into a false sense of security before delivering a punch of raw emotion, channeled through snarling vocals, gnarly guitars, and climactic synth-driven energy.

Catharsis through Creativity

Reflecting on the track’s deeply personal nature, Marc Massive explains, “This song became a necessary cathartic exercise. I was in such a bad headspace that writing this track helped me work through it. Had I not discovered self-help books, meditation, and professional support, I wouldn’t have made it through. The process of rising from despair has been miraculous for my creativity, and this new album reflects that transformation in every song.”

A New Era for Massive Ego

The single also signals a major shift in the band’s musical direction. Long known for their synth-heavy sound, Massive Ego now incorporates a raw guitar edge that brings a fresh intensity to their music.

Guitarist Porl Young, formerly of Rosetta Stone, describes the experience: “Adding guitars to Massive Ego’s synth-driven sound has been an exciting challenge. ‘(My) Death Song’ gave the guitars space to breathe, allowing for a seamless blend of arpeggios and heavy chords that adds a raw, distorted edge to the electronic foundation.”

Keyboardist Lloyd Price adds: “This single is a real departure from our past work. The combination of electronics with heavy guitars offers a glimpse into the eclectic mix on the upcoming album.”

Visual Evolution

As the band prepares for their 30th anniversary in 2026, drummer Olly Frost—known for his constantly evolving appearance—hints at a new visual direction. “For Marc, his iconic look became both a trademark and a prison. Personally, I intend to explore less makeup-driven styles and focus more on form and color saturation, which fascinates me.”

Looking Ahead

Massive Ego is currently working on a new full-length album while gearing up for a busy live schedule. Their first confirmed performance will be at Germany’s M’era Luna Festival on August 9–10, 2025, with additional dates to be announced soon.

Stay tuned for more updates on Massive Ego’s latest projects and performances!
