About Metal Blade Records: Founded on Brian Slagel’s relentless drive to discover great bands and share their music with as many people as possible, Metal Blade has been bringing waves of powerful, innovative, and genre-defining music to the metal masses since 1982. The label boasts a diverse and stunning catalog, has weathered challenges faced by independent labels, and celebrated its successful four-decade existence in an era of declining record sales.
Metal Blade Records launched legendary bands like Metallica, Slayer, Armored Saint, Fates Warning, GWAR, Cannibal Corpse, Amon Amarth, Whitechapel, The Black Dahlia Murder, Cattle Decapitation, and many more, shaping the culture of hard rock, metal, and extreme music for over forty years. Brian Slagel, once a record store clerk, reserved a spot for a young Lars Ulrich on his Metal Massacre compilation series, and Metal Blade has since grown from humble beginnings in Los Angeles into an international powerhouse, selling millions of albums while fiercely maintaining its independence. In 2017, Slayer’s Kerry King inducted the label into the Hall of Heavy Metal History.
Slagel’s book “For the Sake of Heaviness: The History of Metal Blade Records” was released the same year.

Debut Album “IMPII HORA” Out September 29 via Metal Blade Records
For over two decades, vocalist/guitarist Michael Poulsen has been at the forefront of the Danish rock and roll machine Volbeat, with eight full-length albums, millions of records sold, and massive stadium shows worldwide. Before leading Volbeat, Poulsen co-founded the death metal band Dominus, recording four fast, brutal albums in the mid-’90s. While working on songs for Volbeat’s 2021 album, “Servant Of The Mind,” Poulsen crafted a collection of death metal riffs and stored them on his phone. After completing the Volbeat record, he rekindled the fire of Armageddon and formed his new death metal band, ASINHELL. Their debut album, “Impii Hora” (Latin for Ungodly Hour), pays tribute to Poulsen’s favorite old-school groups, blending crushing riffs with powerful guitar hooks and shout-along refrains.
“Impii Hora” will be released on September 29 via Metal Blade. Pre-order it HERE
Today, the band shares the official video for “Fall of the Loyal Warrior,” celebrated by Consequence as a return to Poulsen’s roots!
Poulsen expressed, “The song is kind of a tribute to bands I love, like Bolt Thrower, Entombed, Autopsy, Grave, and Darkthrone. They’re the reason why we can do this in the first place, and we’re proud to wear our influences on our sleeve. The album was inspired by late ’80s and early ’90s old school death metal, and one of our brightest points of inspiration was the mighty Death, fronted by the legendary Chuck Schuldiner. There’s a lot of Death in there. Schuldiner is one of my favorite death metal vocalists, the other being our vocalist Marc [Grewe]. So to me, this song is the combination of two of my favorites. ‘Let the metal flow,’ as Chuck would have said!”
Poulsen collaborated with longtime friend and neighbor, drummer Morten Toft Hansen (Raunchy), on crafting the death metal revival. The duo began jamming on riffs, setting up in Morten’s tiny garage, with no mics or P.A., just a drum kit and a combo amp turned all the way up, reminiscent of their teenage days. They swiftly created new songs every time they met. To add vocals, Poulsen turned to his good friend and one of his all-time favorite death metal growlers: Marc Grewe (Insidious Disease, ex-Morgoth).
“I had known Michael quite a long time and he always mentioned that we should do a death metal project one day, but I never took him too seriously because he was so busy with Volbeat,” Grewe says. “Then he called for real and said, ‘Yeah, I want to do it now. Are you up for it?’ Immediately, I was like, ‘Yes, of course!'”
Completing the trio, Volbeat producer Jacob Hansen stepped in to produce, mix, and play bass on their debut album. For lead guitar, Poulsen enlisted his friend and The Arcane Order axeman, Flemming C. Lund.
The album will be available in various formats:

Los Angeles progressive death metal group, THE ZENITH PASSAGE, releases their second full-length studio album, “Datalysium,” via Metal Blade Records. The album features an overhauled lineup, including original guitarist/keyboardist/backing vocalist Justin McKinney, guitarist Christopher Beattie, vocalist Derek Rydquist, and bassist Brandon Giffin. “Datalysium” showcases the band’s blend of technical head-fuckery, atmosphere, melody, and shifting dynamics, capturing the listener’s undivided attention throughout.
Check out the video for the title track, “Datalysium,” here.
Decibel Magazine praises the album, likening the songs to a creepy daddy longlegs spider, while Metal Injection simply states, “it rips!”
The album was recorded at various locations, with McKinney’s home studio and Rydquist’s apartment being primary spots, and vocals tracked at Flatline Audio with Dave Otero, who also mixed the album. The release is available in standard LP, limited-edition LP, CD, and digital formats. You can get it at metalblade.com/thezenithpassage.

The UK’s heavy metal machine SYLOSIS unveils the title track of their brand-new album, ‘A Sign Of Things To Come’. The new song speaks from Josh Middleton’s position as a new father and his fears of the world that his children will one day inherit.
Josh comments “‘A Sign Of Things To Come’ is a declaration of dismay towards the modern world. It’s about the anxiety of what the future holds and the feeling of division in a society where everyone is pitted against each other. This was the last song to be written for the album. It quickly became apparent that this was going to be one of the biggest, most anthemic songs on the record.”
Produced by Josh Middleton, alongside production legend, Scott Atkins, A Sign Of Things To Come has challenged SYLOSIS into brand-new territory.
“This is the first time I’ve allowed myself to be produced; taking on some brutal criticism and pushing myself to deliver the best vocal performance of my career. I’m a big fan of progressive and long albums, but I was ruthless on myself during the whole process. I think that shows in the final result on the record!” Josh states.

Cognitive’s journey began with the release of their EP and full-length album, which caught the attention of Unique Leader Records in 2016. Their album “Deformity” showcased the band’s unwavering dedication to their craft, intertwining their music with the dark legend of the Jersey Devil, a tale from their home state. This marked the beginning of Cognitive’s ascent in the death metal realm. With subsequent releases like “Matricide” in 2018, the band further honed their technical prowess, speed, and brutal songwriting, propelling them to new heights.
As touring became a way of life, Cognitive embarked on numerous treks alongside notable acts like Fit for an Autopsy, Rivers of Nihil, Through the Eyes of the Dead, Vulvodynia, and Lorna Shore. Their relentless pursuit of musical perfection also led them to grace the stage at Maryland Deathfest. Cognitive’s tireless work ethic and unwavering commitment to progress have transformed them into a touring machine, constantly pushing the boundaries of their art.
With the release of their latest album, “Malevolent Thoughts of a Hastened Extinction,” in 2022, Cognitive showcases their growth and exploration of new musical territories. Displaying diversity and masterful songwriting, the band fearlessly delves into new concepts, further solidifying their status as pioneers in their genre.

Prepare yourself for an unrivaled auditory experience as Cognitive unleashes their sonic onslaught. Catch them live on their tour and immerse yourself in their world of unrelenting brutality and captivating musicianship.
Featuring renowned musicians Michael Poulsen from Volbeat, Marc Grewe from Insidious Disease and ex-Morgoth, and Morten Toft Hansen from Raunchy, Asinhell is here to make their mark. Their debut album, titled “Impii Hora” (meaning Ungodly Hour in Latin), pays homage to Poulsen’s favorite old-school groups. With a foundation of crushing riffs, the songs also incorporate captivating guitar hooks and anthemic refrains.
Prepare for the release of “Impii Hora” on September 29th through Metal Blade Records. Pre-Order the Album HERE!!!.
Poulsen expresses his enthusiasm, stating, “We’re very excited to share the first taste of Asinhell with ‘Fall Of The Loyal Warrior.’ The song is a tribute to bands I love, like Bolt Thrower, Entombed, Autopsy, Grave, and Darkthrone. They are the reason why we can do this in the first place, and we proudly embrace their influence. The album draws inspiration from late ’80s and early ’90s old-school death metal, with one of our brightest points of inspiration being the mighty Death, led by the legendary Chuck Schuldiner. There’s a lot of Death in there. Schuldiner is one of my favorite death metal vocalists, along with our vocalist Marc [Grewe]. So, to me, this song is the combination of two of my favorites. ‘Let the metal flow,’ as Chuck would have said!”
While Poulsen is known for his roles in Volbeat and Dominus, he sought a different frontman for Asinhell. In March 2022, he reached out to his old friend, Marc Grewe, former vocalist of Morgoth and current member of Insidious Disease, inviting him to join the band. Grewe gladly accepted, stating, “I had known Michael for quite a long time, and he always mentioned that we should do a death metal project someday. I didn’t take it too seriously at first because he was so busy with Volbeat. But then he called for real and said, ‘Yeah, I want to do it now. Are you up for it?’ Immediately, I said, ‘Yes, of course!'”
After considering several accomplished drummers, Poulsen approached Morten Toft Hansen from the Danish group Raunchy. Not only does Morten possess incredible drumming skills, but he and Poulsen’s six-year-old daughters are also close friends, and Morten’s place is just a short 10-minute drive away. The experienced musicians began practicing together and managed to complete a full song almost every time they got together. When it was time to write the vocals, Grewe was in Germany, so Poulsen sent him recordings from their rehearsals to kick-start the process. Drawing from their years of experience and renewed passion for destruction, Poulsen and Toft Hansen captured a fiery storm in a bottle.
Within just a year, Asinhell’s concept transformed into the creation of their power-packed full-length album, “Impii Hora.” Poulsen sought Volbeat’s management to help find a suitable label for Asinhell, and he was thrilled when they mentioned that Metal Blade Records’ founder, Brian Slagel, would be interested in the band. Once Slagel heard “Impii Hora,” he made Asinhell a top priority.
“It’s such a dream come true for me to be on fucking Metal Blade Records. When they said they wanted to put out the album, I felt like I was 17 years old again. I couldn’t believe it – making a deal with Metal Blade! How cool is that? It’s like finally realizing the record deal I had dreamed of as a teenager.” – Michael Poulsen

In the mid-1980s, Denmark’s ARTILLERY established themselves as being at the cutting edge of the thrash movement. Four decades later, they continue to destroy. The band’s most recent studio offering – the aptly titled, X — was released in 2021 via Metal Blade Records. X was tracked in Medley Studio in Copenhagen, Denmark with producer Søren Andersen, who the band have worked with on every record since 2009’s When Death Comes. Wrote Blabbermouth upon its release, “Nearly 40 years after their story began, this band is still a unique and exhilarating proposition.” Distorted Sound noted, “This is crisp and accessible, there are no unintelligible vocals and they know how to write a beefed-up metal song. This should please the pit and the guys at the back who prefer to sing along in equal measure. If you like the faster side of metal you owe it to yourself to check this out.” Added Ghost Cult, “Bursting with razor-sharp riffs, frantic shredding, and more hooks than a fisherman’s tackle box, X is another outstanding example of classic Danish thrash.”
Today, the band has shared the video for “You’ll Never Learn” that was filmed at Bloodstock 2022 and Download Fest 2023 by Loki Films. Watch it here: You’ll Never Learn.
“You’ll Never Learn” is about the people you keep around in your life that continue to make the same mistakes without making a change. Chances and patience run out, people will only stick by you for so long. Keep those true to you close, and drop that dead weight.”We shot this video across our two performances at the UK festivals Bloodstock and Download, and Loki Films managed to capture the utter chaos that ensued. Crack open a tinnie, roll a joint, bang your head or do whatever you do and enjoy the carnage of ‘YOU’LL NEVER LEARN.'” Along with our brand new video, we are supremely buzzing to announce that we will be washing Europe and the UK in oceans of blood with our dear friends Lorna Shore, Rivers Of Nihil, and Distant this autumn! We can’t wait to get back out on the road and do what we do best, laying waste to every city that we touch! -Ingested

ABOUT INGESTED: Ingested are the flagbearers of modern UK death metal. They have been churning out bilious anti-anthems for more than a decade-and-a-half, dropping a string of releases that have helped shape the genre. They return with Ashes Lie Still, their most dynamic, inventive, and daring release to date, holding nothing back. The band describes it as “a modern essential. It still has the core Ingested elements of groovy slamming riffs, quick drumming, and guttural vocals but there’s also atmosphere, ethereal moments, and some raw old school aggression.” Over the course of 10 tracks, Ingested hack, slash, and steamroll through everything in their path, and Ashes Lie Still easily stands as the highpoint of an already impressive career. Founded in 2006 in Manchester, England, Ingested have since toured extensively with Cannibal Corpse, The Black Dahlia Murder, Nile, Carnifex, and Revocation, and have been seen on European festival stages including Summer Breeze Open Air. Slimmed down to a three-piece, the band feels it is in the best place it ever has been, enabling the members to work at the top of their game.
Ashes Lie Still was mixed and mastered by Christian Donaldson. It was co-produced by the band and previous collaborator Nico Beninato, with drummer Lyn Jeffs living close to Beninato’s studio in Mallorca and recording his drums there, while Sean Hynes recorded his guitars at home in the UK with the producer assisting remotely. Vocal tracking was interrupted by Jason Evans falling seriously ill when finally making it to Mallorca and was ultimately tracked back in Manchester. Bass was again supplied by Dominic Grimard (Ion Dissonance/The Last Felony).
Ingested succinctly encapsulate their existence, saying, “We’ve always been the underdogs, always fighting for scraps. Well, it’s time to get out of the fucking way, because now it’s our turn to eat at the table.”
You’ve. Been. Warned.
