SpanktheNUN Declassifies New Project, BLAK

Industrial music provocateurs spankthenun have released a new project titled BLAK, which they are presenting not as a traditional album but as a “declassified sonic dossier.” The release is framed as an urgent advisory to the public, warning of an “imminent data release” detailing a phenomenon described as a subculture unified by a stark, dark aesthetic.

The band states that the project is a deep-field study into a “memetic contagion” and that the tracks themselves are “stabilizations” of data. These sonic interpretations include β€œThe Singularity Edit,” which represents an act of separation from the mainstream, and β€œThe Event Horizon Edit,” which explores the boundary of this subculture. A third track, β€œThe Absolute Zero Rendition,” captures what the band calls the sound of “elegant, defiant isolation.”

In a statement, the band acknowledged their role in the phenomenon, saying, “We were not composing; we were documenting a memetic contagion…This release is a warning, an invitation, and a confession. We are all part of the experiment now.”

BLAK is now available on all major streaming platforms, with exclusive versions offered on their Bandcamp page.

BLAK is a chilling and atmospheric release that pushes the boundaries of industrial music, delivering a soundscape that is both immersive and unsettling. The project’s unique conceptual framing as a government-style data release adds to its intrigue and artistic weight. It is a must-listen for fans of industrial, darkwave, and experimental electronic music.

FRONTAL BOUNDARY signs with Alfa Matrix and debuts with the explosive EBM/industrial EP, “Hate.”

Brace yourself for a full-frontal sonic assault as FRONTAL BOUNDARY unleash β€œHate”, the explosive new EP that marks the band’s first strike from their upcoming full-length album β€œFailure” – and also celebrates their signing to leading electro-industrial label Alfa Matrix, home to genre-defining acts like FRONT 242, UNTER NULL, POUPPEE FABRIKK, ALIEN VAMPIRES or yet KOMOR KOMMANDO.

With β€œHate”, FRONTAL BOUNDARY channels raw aggression and emotional turmoil into a blistering EBM/industrial anthem. β€œThis track voices the fury felt toward those who constantly try to keep you down”, explains vocalist Krz Souls. Brendin Ross (ex-BILE, ex-INVA//ID, Dawn of Ashes, and Bornless Fire), the band’s founding member and instrumental powerhouse behind FRONTAL BOUNDARY is indeed joined by Krz Souls (ex-INVA//ID, Dawn of Ashes, Bornless Fire) on vocals and Jaysen Craves (Livernois) on synths.

Melding fire and ice, chaos and control, FRONTAL BOUNDARY’s signature sound fuses dense industrial rhythms, driving EBM beats, dark melodic leads, and infectious synthpop textures – topped with harsh, emotional vocals that sometimes veer into future pop territory. Fans of SUICIDE COMMANDO, C-LEKKTOR, COMBICHRIST, LEAETHER STRIP and ROTERSAND will feel right at home.

The β€œHate” EP also includes club-destroying remixes by American industrial force FACT PATTERN and cult Alfa Matrix label-mate UNTER NULL, adding new layers of intensity to an already volatile release.

β€œHate” is not just a song – it’s a statement. Welcome to FRONTAL BOUNDARY. Resistance is futile.

UNTER NULL Returns with Vengeance on New EP, “You Made A Monster”

After smashing expectations with her previous single and reigniting the fire of UNTER NULL, Erica Dunham returns with a vengeance. Her new EP, β€œYou Made A Monster,” is a brutal, no-holds-barred confrontation with trauma, betrayal, and the silent complicity that empowers abusers.

Fueled by raw emotion and cutting honesty, the title track is a devastating dark elektro anthem built from real-life scars. It drags narcissistic abuse and its enablers into the harsh light, pulling no punches: β€œYou knew what he did / You knew of his lies / You gave up your morals for your motherfucking pride.” This is not a song of defeat – it’s a battle cry. A reclaiming of power. A voice for the erased.

β€œI wrote this because I was tired of being erased”, says Erica. β€œIt’s for anyone who has screamed the truth into a void while everyone else nodded along with the abuser”.

Also featured is the haunting yet defiant β€œComing Up To Breathe”, reimagined as well in three powerful remixes: C-LEKKTOR brings his signature dark pulse, LEAETHER STRIP injects classic EBM fire with a melodic touch, and rising force FRONTAL BOUNDARY adds a fierce modern twist.

β€œYou Made A Monster” is not just an EP. It’s a statement. It’s UNTER NULL – louder, stronger, and more intentional than ever. Play it loud. Feel every word. And never be silent again.

🦠 Flesh Field Reissues Viral Extinction in Remastered Glory

The electro-industrial classic returns June 27th via Metropolis Records

Flesh Field resurrects its monumental debut, Viral Extinction, now fully remastered and available once again to ignite speakers and summon shadows. πŸ“… Viral Extinction returns on June 27th, 2025, via Metropolis Records and includes the haunting new single:

🎧 β€œWhere Angels Go to Die” β€” a darkly angelic descent into spiritual decay, described by Ian Ross as β€œapocalyptic in language, but musically designed to feel beautifully bleak.”

πŸ‘ Flesh Field: Reawakened and Reforged

Formed by Ian Ross in Columbus, Ohio in 1996, Flesh Field erupted onto the scene with an aggressive yet orchestrally grand vision of electro-industrial. Their debut, Viral Extinction, quickly earned attention for its layered textures and dramatic sonic architectureβ€”setting a benchmark for dark electronic music at the turn of the millennium.

After releasing the Redemption remix EP in 2000 and the critically lauded albums Belief Control (2001) and Strain (2004), the project went silent. Despite that, Flesh Field’s music enduredβ€”appearing in the soundtracks of True Blood, The Mill, and Project Gotham Racing.

Ross eventually reemerged in 2023 with the concept album Voice of the Echo Chamber, examining the psychology of political radicalization. A companion EP, Voice of Reason, followed in 2024.

Now, 25 years after its initial release, Viral Extinction is rebornβ€”remastered and once again relevant in a world teetering on its own digital precipice.

The synthwave overlord returns with a cyber-apocalyptic journey featuring Ulver, Alcest, and Author & Punisher

The album’s first single, β€œApocalypse Now,” is a brooding, cinematic track featuring a powerful guest appearance from Ulver’s Kristoffer Rygg. The accompanying music videoβ€”directed by longtime visual collaborator David Fittβ€”offers a stark and surreal visualization of society spiraling into chaos.

β€œThe first half of the album explores misanthropy and violence,” Kent explains. β€œThe second half reflects the strength of the individual and the rejection of the herd.”

The cyber apocalypse starts now as Tim Skold launches his first shot from the upcoming album Caught In The Throes.

πŸ’₯ AI, Identity, and the Death of Humanity

Today, June 27, SKOLD has unveiled β€œAll Humans Must Be Destroyed”, the first single from his forthcoming full-length album, Caught In The Throes. This aggressive new track doesn’t hold backβ€”blending mechanized industrial rhythms with lyrical themes of artificial intelligence, dehumanization, and a cold suspicion that some people might already be… machines.

SKOLD’s icy snarl cuts through the noise, asking uncomfortable questions about reality and the very nature of what it means to be human.

πŸ’€ Douglas McCarthy of Nitzer Ebb Dies at 58

EBM pioneer remembered for his raw vocals, anti-authoritarian lyrics, and uncompromising legacy in industrial music

Douglas McCarthy, the commanding voice of Nitzer Ebb and a trailblazer of Electronic Body Music (EBM), has died at the age of 58. The band confirmed his passing on social media, asking fans to respect the privacy of McCarthy’s wife and family during this difficult time. No official cause of death has been disclosed, though McCarthy had previously revealed he was battling liver cirrhosis and had stepped back from touring in 2023.

πŸ–€ A Voice Like No Other

McCarthy’s snarling, confrontational vocal style became the signature of Nitzer Ebb, a band that fused punk’s fury with industrial dancefloor power. From the drill-sergeant intensity of β€œJoin in the Chant” to the swaggering chaos of β€œFun to Be Had,” McCarthy’s delivery cut through robotic drums and menacing synths with visceral force.

He didn’t just singβ€”he commanded. Tracks like β€œLet Your Body Learn” and β€œMurderous” weren’t just club hits; they were marching orders for a new wave of outsiders ready to break free from conformity and musical clichΓ©.

β€œEverything we do should be able to surprise people,” McCarthy told Spin in 1992. β€œTo us, Nitzer Ebb represents a different way of looking at music.”

πŸ”Š Origins of a Movement

Formed in 1982 in Chelmsford, England, Nitzer Ebb was founded by McCarthy, Bon Harris, and David Goodayβ€”schoolmates with a shared taste for sonic rebellion. Their band name, cobbled together from cut-up newspaper clippings, reflected the abstract, jagged energy of their musicβ€”lean, muscular electronics with zero fluff.

Their 1987 debut That Total Age became a cult industrial landmark, while follow-up albums Belief, Showtime, and Ebbhead pushed their sound into darker, more experimental terrain. Collaborations with Depeche Mode’s Alan Wilder, especially on Ebbhead and later through Recoil, helped refine their blend of brutality and elegance.

McCarthy once said his stage persona was inspired by witnessing Nick Cave perform with The Birthday Partyβ€”a moment that confirmed for him the importance of forging an identity that screamed: β€œFuck everyone.”

🎀 Beyond Ebb

After Ebbhead, McCarthy joined Wilder’s Recoil, lending his voice to haunting tracks like β€œThe Faith Healer,” β€œStalker,” and β€œIncubus.” He also launched Fixmer/McCarthy with techno producer Terence Fixmer, and released his only solo album, Kill Your Friends, in 2013.

Despite these detours, McCarthy never left Nitzer Ebb behind for long. The band reunited in 2006 and returned with 2010’s Industrial Complex and 2011’s Join in the Rhythm of Machines EP. Their sound found new fans through placements in Saw sequels and Grand Theft Auto IV, where β€œLet Your Body Learn” made a fierce reappearance.

⚠️ Health Struggles and Final Years

In 2021, McCarthy collapsed on stage in Florida due to post-COVID complications but insisted on continuing the tour. In 2023, he announced his temporary retirement from performing, citing a long recovery from liver cirrhosis. β€œFor over two years, I haven’t been drinking, but recovery is a long process that can at times be extremely hard to predict,” he wrote.

Even with these setbacks, his presence in the industrial scene remained undiminishedβ€”his voice and spirit forever entwined with the genre’s DNA.

πŸ•― Legacy of Defiance

Douglas McCarthy wasn’t just a frontmanβ€”he was an antihero of the underground, a defiant force who rejected conformity and embraced confrontation. Whether barking over EBM rhythms, collaborating with electronic legends, or baring his soul through minimal, cutting lyrics, he left an indelible mark on music that valued authenticity over approval.

β€œEven if there are missteps,” he told San Francisco Bay Area Concerts in 2019, β€œI think the purity of what we wereβ€”or areβ€”trying to get is indicative of the time and place.”

He never wanted to fit in. And that’s exactly why we’ll never forget him.

About FLESH FIELD:

Flesh Field was founded in Ohio in the mid-90s by composer Ian Ross. Renowned for its widescreen cinematic sound achieved by blending synths, percussion, guitar, and sampled choir, the group’s music soon earned plaudits for its aggressive approach and subsequently featured in a number of film/TV soundtracks and video games. Having retired the name in 2011, Ross eventually relocated to Virginia, where he resurrected Flesh Field to issue an album entitled β€˜Voice of the Echo Chamber’ in late 2023 and the companion piece β€˜Voice Of Reason’ EP in April 2024.

Their debut album, β€˜Viral Extinction’, was released three years later, earning glowing reviews for its brutal and aggressive sound, while some of its songs were subsequently remixed by several contemporaries (including scene leaders Covenant) and issued together with some new songs on the album-length β€˜Redemption’ EP in 2000.

Highlighting the band’s compositional skills with bombastic symphonic elements and intricate synth and percussion programming, 2001’s β€˜Belief Control’ solidified Flesh Field’s status as a band to be reckoned with. It also led to the group signing to Metropolis Records for the US release of their third album, β€˜Strain’. With new layers of acoustic and electronic percussion, guitar, and choral effects added into the mix, these elements resulted in an an epic and anthemic feel to a record that was acclaimed by fans and critics alike.

Then, silence. For almost two decades, Flesh Field lay dormant, even as numerous tracks from their catalog were placed in the soundtracks of films including ‘The Mill’, TV shows such as ‘True Blood’, and video games like ‘Project Gotham Racing’. β€˜Voice Of The Echo Chamber’ suddenly appeared in 2023; a concept work with each of its ten tracks representing stages of political radicalization and violence, it was followed by an album length companion piece EP entitled β€˜Voice Of Reason’.

🎧🎢 RHYS FULBER Releases New Single “Only Love Will Save Us” – “Memory Impulse Autonomy” Album Out September 5th! 🎧

Electronic artist Rhys Fulber has released his new single, “Only Love Will Save Us,” featuring suicide disco icon Barkosina (from Years of Denial). The track is available today, May 30th, and is a powerful precursor to his upcoming solo album, “Memory Impulse Autonomy,” set for release on September 5th via Artoffact Records.

“Only Love Will Save Us” delivers a powerful and emotional message. Its chorus, acting as a potent mantra, declares that love is the sole force capable of healing, uniting, and redeeming humanity from its darkest tendencies. Amidst the sweeping synth lines of this moodily atmospheric club banger, Barkosina takes a moment to shine, lending her unique touch to its timely lyrics.

Listen to β€˜Only Love Will Save Us’ HERE.

Listen to the previously released single β€˜The Abyss’ HERE.

FΓͺted electronic artist Rhys Fulber takes you further back and forward with his first solo release for Artoffact, Memory Impulse Autonomy. The album harks back to the music that Fulber made in his youth, inspired by bands such as Cabaret Voltaire, Portion Control, and fellow Vancouverites Skinny Puppy, but blends those influences with the brutalist rhythms and harsh industrial techno that he has been pioneering in recent years.

Thematically, the record explores his joy of creating music for the first time in the Eighties, using primitive equipment with a freedom of expression driven only by his imagination.

’The title refers to fond memories of my roots in making electronic music and the excitement and passion I had for these sounds that were new at the time,’ Fulber says. β€˜That style is embedded in me. Going back to them allowed me to make music on impulse, and many of the instrumentals were created from studio jams.’

While there are distinct nods to the past in the gnarly Richard H Kirk-esque cut ups of ‘All Of You Go To Heaven’ and ‘Baaderzeit’s’ eerie Tangerine Dream-like sequences, the album is also very much a modernist collaborative effort, utilizing voices from the forefront of contemporary electronic music including William Maybelline (Qual/Lebanon Hanover), Years of Denial’s Barkosina, and Hamburg-based aufnahme+wiedergabe recording artist Konstantin Unwohl.

PRE ORDER β€œMEMORY IMPULSE AUTONOMY” HERE.

β€˜The vocalists are new artists who are inspired by a similar era,’ Fulber adds.

Darkwave and EBM artist Qual guests on two tracks, lending his trademark lugubrious vocals and bleakly humorous lyrics to the dark techno of opening track and first single ‘The Abyss’ and the strident rhythmic ‘Control’.

Suicide disco icon Barkosina takes a moment to shine amid the sweeping synth lines of ‘Only Love Will Save Us’, a moodily atmospheric club banger with timely lyrics, while Unwohl, a genre-bending artist with a growing cult following and a series of groundbreaking releases, delivers a sonorous vocodered turn on melancholic electro-ballad ‘Nichts DafΓΌr Getan’, a slow burning epic with lyrics that Unwohl originally wrote for a punk song.

Elsewhere, the chugging dancefloor friendly ‘Exlavier’ and the titanic beats of ‘New Despotism’ contrast with the pretty interlocking textures of ‘The Elder’ and the gently pulsing ambient closer ‘Further Back And Forward’.

The distinctive cover art comes courtesy of legendary graphic designer Steven R Gilmore, perhaps best known for his decades-long relationship with Skinny Puppy and his work for Vancouver-based label Nettwerk, for whom he provided eye-catching sleeves for A Perfect Circle, Moev, Severed Heads, Chris & Cosey, and many others.

’The concept for the album is not a total replication of the past, except in the case of the artwork, which recalls that era at its peak’, says Fulber.

Fulber is a longtime member of Canadian industrial outfit Front Line Assembly and ambient pop duo Delerium (both with Bill Leeb), and solo project Conjure One. As a producer, he has worked with artists as varied as Fear Factory, Paradise Lost, Sinead O’Connor, Sarah McLachlan, and Youth Code.

“Memory Impulse Autonomy” Tracklisting:

  1. The Abyss (featuring Qual)
  2. Control (featuring Qual)
  3. Only Love Will Save Us (featuring Barkosina)
  4. Exclavier
  5. Nichts DafΓΌr Getan (featuring Konstantin Unwohl)
  6. New Despotism
  7. All Of You Go To Heaven
  8. The Elder
  9. Baaderzeit
  10. Further Back And Forward

More About Rhys Fulber:

Rhys Fulber is widely known in the industrial and electronic music circles for his EBM trailblazing with Front Line Assembly, chart topping with Delerium, and dramatic melodies with Conjure One. Additionally holding a grey cardinal status in metal and a variety of other genres, Fulber is a respected producer whose discography and work speaks for itself. Rhys Fulber now opens a new chapter, sculpting both intricate and hard hitting music best described as “Future EBM.”

🎧🎢 HOCICO Unleashes New Single “Brainrot”! 🎧

Mexico’s electro-industrial juggernauts HOCICO once again plunge into the dystopian psyche of the digital era. Erk Aicrag and Racso Agroyam return with a visceral, unrelenting track that strips away the glossy veneer of online life and exposes the rot festering beneath.

If The Screen was a direct attack on the anonymity of internet cruelty, “Brainrot” dives even deeper, capturing the suffocating grip of algorithmic addiction. It’s a grotesque ballet of dopamine, dependency, and despair, screamed through Erk’s searing vocals and wrapped in Racso’s hellish production.

Musically, “Brainrot” marks a bold evolution in Hocico’s sound. Infused with aggressive drum and bass influences, it hits with a hyperkinetic energy that feels both chaotic and meticulously controlled. The track seamlessly fuses this rhythmic onslaught with the duo’s signature industrial brutality and aggrotech venom, creating a sound that feels both fresh and devastatingly familiar. This is not a trend-following experimentβ€”it’s a fully weaponized Hocico beatdown, sharpened for the digital battlefield.

From the very first line, “Plug me in, I’m a slave to the screen,” the listener is dragged into a world where identity, free will, and humanity are systematically dismantled by our tech overlords. The lyrics are a cyberpunk confession: raw, paranoid, and disturbingly accurate. Lines like β€œI dance for the likes, I bleed for the views” hit like gut punches, capturing the performance anxiety and manufactured existence many experience but few dare to articulate.

The chorus, an unrelenting chant of “Brainrot!”, becomes a war cry and a diagnosis all at once. Each repetition digs deeper into the madness, like a virus rewriting the code of the self. The distorted synths and glitchy textures reflect the chaos of a mind being rewired for engagement, not meaning.

Hocico doesn’t just critique digital cultureβ€”they drag its corpse onto the stage, expose its entrails, and make you dance with it. The track’s final verse, “Now I’m the king of nothing but brainrot!”, isn’t just a lyric, it’s a warning: the more we feed the machine, the more it devours us.

With “Brainrot,” Hocico once again proves they are not just musicians but prophets of a dying age, screaming from the edge of digital oblivion. This isn’t just music, it’s a mirror. And you won’t like what you see.

SPANKTHENUN, alongside twisted re-imaginings from CVRBON DECVY and Melody Whore, has just unveiled “PANOPTIKON,” a chillingly captivating 4-on-the-floor electro experience. This track serves as an ominous sonic tribute to Dallas’s iconic Panoptikon club, pulling you into its shadowy embrace.

“PANOPTIKON” ensnares the listener with its relentless surveillance beats and a haunting, unforgettable refrain (“See me now, see forever, PANOPTIKON”). You’re drawn into a world of neon grids and pulsing rhythms, where the infectious groove becomes your captor. As shadows writhe and the intensity builds, the very notion of freedom seems to slip away within this hypnotic soundscape.

Adding further layers to this digital menace, the release features compelling and distorted remixes from the sonic architects CVRBON DECVY and Melody Whore. 🎧 AESTHETISCHE – “Selling Fear” EP: Brazil’s EBM Titans Unleash a Wake-Up Call for a World on the Brink! 🎧 – πŸ’€

From the vibrant heart of Brazil emerges AESTHETISCHE, the formidable EBM duo led by Gui Pires and Fab Viscardi, delivering a powerful sonic statement for 2025: the “Selling Fear” EP. In a reality increasingly fractured by the weight of misinformation, manipulative media, and escalating socio-political tensions, this new EP strikes with the urgency of a pounding alarm – a defiant and vital soundtrack for an era teetering on the edge.

With “Selling Fear,” AESTHETISCHE channels their signature fusion of precise electronic craftsmanship and raw, gritty intensity into six fiercely sharp tracks. These sonic creations artfully straddle the line between potent protest anthems and irresistible dance floor weapons. Drawing inspiration from the iconic legacies of FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY and the “Tyranny For You”-era FRONT 242, the duo seamlessly blends abrasive industrial textures with compelling melodic EBM grooves – a potent combination of visceral energy and intellectual depth.

From the aggressive rhythmic onslaught of the title track itself to its intriguing reinterpretations, “Selling Fear” provides multiple angles on a central, undeniable truth: resistance is not optional, and silence equates to complicity. The EP also features a fresh and impactful 2025 rework of “Everything Ends,” transforming last year’s original into a hard-hitting, club-ready anthem.

This is more than just an EP; “Selling Fear” is a sonic manifesto. AESTHETISCHE issues a rallying cry to all sonic dissidents: confront the overwhelming noise, decipher the pervasive lies, and transmute fear into the very fuel for change.

Let the machines articulate the message – and let the unvarnished truth resonate.

🎧 STAHLGEIST’s “Justice”: A Crash Course in EBM Mayhem (Out June 13th, 2025 – Detention Recommended!) 🎧 – πŸ’€

Hailing from the heart of Hungary and wielding powerful rhythms comes STAHLGEIST, the nation’s prime purveyors of Electronic Body Music. Their latest decree, “Justice,” isn’t just an album; it’s a 13-track sonic sentencing that proves their recent “Silence” EP was merely a polite cough before a full-throated roar. The masterminds behind this auditory arraignment are IstvΓ‘n Gazdag (also known for FIRST AID 4 SOULS and FIRST AID TECH) and the vocal prosecutor TamΓ‘s Bank (of WORKER MUNKAS and INTERZONE INC.). Together, they’ve crafted their most rigorously engineered and brutally effective record to date – a dance floor demolition expertly produced and as shadowy as an oil slick in a moonless night.

Prepare for a journey that begins with the wailing sirens of the opening track, “Justice,” navigates the darkly melodic highways of “Bad Galaxy,” slams you with the percussive force of the club hit “Boots On The Ground,” and finally leaves you in the stark quietude of “Silence.” This album cleverly synthesizes the militant drive of vintage NITZER EBB, the catchy synth lines of AND ONE, the sonic venom of LEAETHER STRIP, and the precise impact of FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY, all while retaining STAHLGEIST’s distinct Central European edge. Gazdag’s production achieves a crystalline clarity within a darkly textured soundscape, while Bank’s vocals deliver biting accusations against societal ills, urban decay, and even divine comeuppance.

Forged over three years, “Justice” stands as STAHLGEIST’s artistic creed: no backing down, no leniency, just pure power channeled through compelling beats. If your musical tastes align with the classic sounds of FRONT 242 (circa 1985), the relentless intensity of :WUMPSCUT:, the early melodicism of AND ONE, or the stark aggression of NITZER EBB, then prepare to have your speakers thoroughly interrogated.

The final verdict? Unquestionably guilty of inciting total dance floor pandemonium. Initiate playback and feel the sonic gavel fall!
