A Metal Classic Enters Lockjaw’s Dark Universe 💀
Lockjaw released its new interpretation of “Paranoid” on August 27, revisiting the Black Sabbath classic through the band’s distinctive industrial-goth framework.
Rather than attempting to imitate the original recording, Lockjaw pulls the composition into a colder and more claustrophobic environment. The familiar momentum remains recognizable, but the surrounding textures carry the weight of grinding electronics, oppressive minor-key atmosphere, and the weathered aggression of a band shaped by more than three decades in the underground.
The result moves quickly, striking with nearly three minutes of concentrated tension. It preserves the anxious urgency at the heart of “Paranoid” while replacing the warmth of early heavy metal with something darker, harsher, and more mechanical.
Three Decades of Milwaukee Darkness ⚙️
Founded by creative force and vocalist Medavon DeRaj’e in 1994, Lockjaw has become one of Milwaukee’s most enduring industrial-goth projects. The band’s history includes performances alongside Prong, KMFDM, Powerman 5000, Wednesday 13, Type O Negative, and Marilyn Manson, as well as the placement of “Bored Again” in the Xbox 360 game Dead Rising.
That history makes “Paranoid” an appropriate choice. Black Sabbath helped establish the vocabulary of darkness and psychological unease that later generations of industrial, gothic, and alternative musicians would continue reshaping. Lockjaw approaches that legacy from its own corner of the underground, filtering the song through years of electronic experimentation and abrasive live performance.
Released independently across Bandcamp and major streaming platforms, “Paranoid” stands apart from Lockjaw’s forthcoming Forever Tomorrow EP. It functions as a standalone tribute—one that respects the architecture of the original while allowing the band’s fractured visual and sonic identity to consume the structure around it.
