Emerging from the creature-infested depths of New York, the epic fantasy heavy metal band CASTLE RAT, led by the formidable “Rat Queen” (Riley Pinkerton), have revealed details for their highly anticipated sophomore album, “The Bestiary,” set to be unleashed on September 19th via a collaborative release from King Volume Records (US) and Blues Funeral Recordings (UK/Europe).

Following their critically acclaimed debut, “Into The Realm,” “The Bestiary” promises 13 spellbinding tracks of mystical metal carnage, brought to life by “The Rat Queen,” “The Count,” “The Plague Doctor,” and “The All-Seeing Druid” in their ongoing battles against “The Rat Reaperess.”

“The Bestiary” was recorded by the renowned Randall Dunn (Sunn O))), Wolves in the Throne Room, Björk) and mixed by Jonathan Nuñez (Torche, Restless Spirit), ensuring a sonic journey of epic proportions.

The Rat Queen herself describes the album: “‘The Bestiary’ is a conceptual book of beasts containing a collection of mystical creatures from a world forgotten. The last remaining souls of each have been gathered and preserved by ‘The Wizard.’ Cautionary tales of each beast and The Wizard himself are woven through the power of traditional heavy metal song and spell.”

BLOOD VULTURE Announces Debut Album, “Die Close,” Out June 27th!

New Single/Video, “A Dream About Starving To Death,” Streaming Now

From the shadowy crypts of New York comes the malevolent new band, BLOOD VULTURE. Created by Jordan Old (2 Minutes To Late Night), this gothic sludge metal entity lures listeners in with a mesmerizing blend of romanticism, metallic vibes, and brutal reckoning on their debut album, Die Close, which will be released on June 27th via Pure Noise Records.

Today, BLOOD VULTURE reveals the video for their first single, “A Dream About Starving To Death.” Jordan Olds comments on the track:

“’A Dream About Starving To Death’ is a song I wrote about a vampire who realizes he is about to watch the world end. He has lived past the extinction of humanity and lost count of how many days he has been hungry, and he realizes that soon there won’t be an earth anymore. He’s not sure whether it will explode or just rot and crumble, and he’s curious about whether he’ll disintegrate or just float forever in space.

The music video was inspired by the “Freddy coming through the wall” scene from “A Nightmare On Elm Street.” I then built it around a sleep paralysis narrative and had a lot of fun creating a Gullermo Del Toro style Hat Man and a goopy void reminiscent of Aliens and the symbiote from Spiderman alongside one of my main visual collaborators for this project, Kelly Harris. She also built and designed “Montague” the puppet from the “Blood Vault” segment at the beginning of the video. She’s a genius.”

MARES OF THRACE Unleash Ferocious New Single “Anticipatory Grief” Ahead of New Album The Loss

Canadian sludge-noise duo Mares of Thrace are back with another crushing chapter in their journey through sorrow and sonic chaos. Their latest single, “Anticipatory Grief,” is out now, offering a raw and relentless preview of their upcoming full-length record The Loss, due out May 16 via Artoffact Records.

The third track to emerge from The Loss, “Anticipatory Grief” erupts with an ominous guitar riff that spirals into crushing distortion. Thérèse Lanz delivers a feral vocal performance that feels like a cathartic exorcism, while drummer Casey Rodgers smashes forward with thunderous precision. Together, they create a suffocating wall of sound steeped in dread, anxiety, and inevitability.

Lanz explains the meaning behind the song:

“The songs on The Loss follow the sequence of Elisabeth Kübler-Ross’ famous stages of grief, but in my reading I found descriptions of very specific flavors of grief that often go unacknowledged—bonus grief, if you will. Anticipatory Grief is the pain of watching loss creep slowly toward you, knowing it’s coming, and feeling helpless in that long descent.”

Following their previous release, Complicated Grief, this new single continues the band’s emotional excavation through the psychological terrain of mourning and survival. Gritty, visceral, and unapologetically dark, “Anticipatory Grief” is more than a song—it’s a confrontation with pain.

“We are proud to present The Teeth of Time, a culmination of several years of blood, sweat, and pain. It is a nightmare made manifest, and we are both eager to share our creative work and grateful to the many people who helped make it possible.”

To mark the album’s announcement, the band has unveiled “False Grail,” a harrowing preview of the hellscape awaiting listeners within The Teeth of Time. First premiered at Invisible Oranges, the track delivers an ominous, suffocating atmosphere that perfectly sets the tone for the album.

Matt Solis on “False Grail”:

“‘False Grail’ was the last song we wrote before entering the studio. It came together relatively quickly based on ideas that Stikker brought in—he had it well fleshed out, but we expanded the closing doom section to really emphasize the dynamic shift in the song. We also knew we wanted string accompaniment, so we had Eva Vonne from Isenordal add mournful viola layers after tracking was completed.”

Matt Stikker on the Song’s Concept:

“Lyrically, the song is a nightmare reflecting the disconnect between the true and projected self, and the increasing tension between those poles that we all experience. The map is not the territory, but when the map prefigures and gradually dictates the territory, our agency is threatened forever.”

Formed in Portland in 2012, DROUTH (formerly known as Contempt) has carved a reputation in the extreme metal underground for their seamless blend of black metal, death metal, doom, and crust. Their 2014 debut EP Skinwalker put them on the map, followed by Vast, Loathsome (2015), full-lengths Knives, Labyrinths, Mirrors (2017) and Excerpts From a Dread Liturgy (2020).

Antania Joins Psyclon Nine on U.S. ‘Devils Work’ Tour in 2025

The rising “Doom Bass” pioneers Antania are set to join industrial metal heavyweights Psyclon Nine on their highly anticipated ‘Devils Work’ Tour across the United States this spring. Known for their groundbreaking fusion of black metal, doom metal, and electronic bass music, Antania continues to captivate audiences with their innovative sound and visceral live performances.

Heralded as the inventors and champions of the “Doom Bass” subgenre, Antania has been active since June 2023, quickly carving a unique niche in the metal and electronic music scenes. Drawing influences from Slayer, Ministry, The Prodigy, Morbid Angel, and Deicide, the band has been likened to “the Slayer of bass music.”

The duo, composed of Dr. Luna (bass and electronics) and Kali Mortem (vocals), forgoes traditional string instruments, creating their sound by wrapping distortion around saw and sub-bass lines using a microbrute synthesizer.
