Despite the un-summer-ish weather in Hamburg, Faderhead is breaking out of their music-making vacation to find new inspiration and energy. The break was much needed, as Faderhead had hit a creative wall, questioning the future of making music under the Faderhead name. But with a new perspective and some energy restored, Faderhead is ready to embark on a fresh musical journey.
In the past, Faderhead’s music was born spontaneously, resulting in unique albums with a mix of random styles and songs created throughout the year. However, a shift occurred in 2017 when Faderhead aimed to infuse more depth into the music, enhancing live shows and refining performances. This pursuit of perfection brought structure and rehearsal into the process, reducing spontaneity but yielding better results.
When the pandemic struck, Faderhead seized the opportunity to promote extensively on social media and release new music. However, after continuous efforts, the creative gas tank is now empty, leaving Faderhead uncertain about the future path.
On one hand, continuing as Faderhead may feel repetitive, and on the other, venturing into side projects requires additional effort and resources. Despite the uncertainty, Faderhead decided to explore new avenues, acquiring new skills like piano playing and honing singing abilities.
While the future direction remains unclear, Faderhead’s determination to stay fresh involves planning breaks and periods of skill development. As a result, Faderhead will embark on “30 Beats in 30 Days,” creating a beat every day in August to generate ideas and encourage creativity.
In the spirit of spontaneity, Faderhead also designed new shirts inspired by fans at the recent Amphi Festival. The shirts feature lyrics from “Destroy Improve Rebuild” and are available in various designs in Faderhead’s online store.
As the journey unfolds, Faderhead hopes to find renewed passion for music-making and welcomes input from fans about future directions. So stay tuned, follow the “30 for 30,” journey, and witness Faderhead’s creative evolution!
In April 2023, the doom heavy metal group KHEMMIS from Colorado embarked on their ‘Deceiver North America MMXXIII Tour,’ joining forces with UK sludge/post-metal heavyweights and labelmates CONJURER, along with Canadian atmospheric grinders Wake.
Videographer/archivist Sunny Singh of Hate5six captured the May 6th performances at Underground Arts in Philadelphia, and now fans can witness the intense live energy on the Hate5Six YouTube Channel.
KHEMMIS treated fans to the two-song EP “Where The Cold Wind Blows” in 2023, available digitally and as a limited edition 7″. This release followed their critically-acclaimed 2021 album “Deceiver.” CONJURER, on the other hand, was on the road promoting their latest offering, “Pathos,” released in 2022.
Hate5Six has become a prominent platform in the hardcore scene, documenting bands big and small in all stages of their careers. The platform allows global fans to experience live music they may not be able to witness in person, making it a crucial space for bands and fans alike.
The sets filmed on May 6th were expertly captured and edited by Sunny Singh, while KHEMMIS’ front-of-house, Aaron Kelly, tracked and mixed their headlining set. Bryan Batiste mixed the performances of CONJURER, WAKE, and SUNBURSTER.
About KHEMMIS: KHEMMIS, the Colorado doom heavy metal masters, unveiled their fourth full-length studio album, “Deceiver,” in November 2021 via Nuclear Blast Records. With six soul-awakening tracks, the album reflects the internal struggles faced in daily life, encapsulating an honest and raw piece of musical artistry. “Deceiver” showcases a broader range of musical influences than previous KHEMMIS records, blending various styles such as grunge, black metal, jazz, rock, dark wave, and more. The band’s freedom to explore new territories makes the album an electrifying tour de force that captivates listeners from beginning to end.
About CONJURER: CONJURER’s album “Páthos” is a multi-layered beast, encompassing elements of sludge, death, doom, black metal, and hardcore. With nods to bands like SUMAC, GOJIRA, old MASTODON, and OATHBREAKER, the record offers a sublime experience with post-metal influences. CONJURER’s exceptional mix of triumphantly beautiful melodies and gut-punching heaviness cements their position at the top of Britain’s heavy music scene.
Following their explosive debut last month, the extreme metal band TILL THE DIRT returns with their fierce follow-up single “Starring Role.” This cataclysmic track is featured on their highly anticipated debut album, “Outside The Spiral,” produced by the renowned Scott Burns and set to release on August 25th via Nuclear Blast Records.
Kelly Shaefer, the influential death metal legend, ATHEIST vocalist, and mastermind behind TILL THE DIRT, shares his thoughts on the new song:
“‘Starring Role’ takes the lead as the opening track of the album. It ranks among my favorites on the record and is also a favorite of producer Scott Burns. It’s a straight-up ripper! The song embodies all the unique hybrid qualities of this entire album. Lyrically, it delves into the oddness of dreams and the roles we sometimes fail to comprehend as we wake from them. This is the perfect banger to blast at full volume while driving at high speeds!”
Recently signed to Nuclear Blast, Shaefer and his crew made an unforgettable impression with their lead single and title track “Outside The Spiral,” featuring TESTAMENT bassist Steve Di Giorgio.
Prepare for an electrifying journey with TILL THE DIRT’s debut album “Outside The Spiral,” featuring an explosive blend of extreme musical force and genre-defying creativity. Kelly Shaefer and his co-conspirators have breathed new life into the world of extreme music, delivering tracks infused with grunge, black metal, jazz, rock, dark wave, and more, redefining the very essence of death metal.

UK’s epic heavymetallers Heathen Kings burst onto the scene with their highly anticipated debut album “Fealty To None,” accompanied by a powerful video for the title track that will leave metal fans in awe.
Named after ancient lords of Middle-earth, Heathen Kings blend new blood with old lore, crafting their sound in the fires of Mount Doom, where only the strongest can emerge unscathed.
With soaring vocals, virtuosic guitar work, and a rhythm section built for war, Heathen Kings deliver anthems of fantasy, history, and divine wonders. Formed in Suffolk, UK, in 2021, their sole purpose is to join the ranks of modern metal titans such as Visigoth, Grand Magus, Blind Guardian, Sumerlands, and Eternal Champion. The birth of Shocker dates back to 2018, but the idea had been spinning through the minds of Sammy and Koen for a long time. Due to other challenges and obligations in their daily lives, the idea was postponed. With everyone having a different musical background, SHOCKER strives to find common ground, and that’s where the magic happens—the formation of the Shocker sound.
Mixing genres and styles without being confined to boundaries is one of the things they love, and the possibilities seem endless, giving them a wide path to explore.

The album was recorded and mixed at Shellshock Studios by Pieter Nyckees and mastered by Frederik Dejongh at Jerboa Mastering.

Debut Album “IMPII HORA” Out September 29 via Metal Blade Records
For over two decades, vocalist/guitarist Michael Poulsen has been at the forefront of the Danish rock and roll machine Volbeat, with eight full-length albums, millions of records sold, and massive stadium shows worldwide. Before leading Volbeat, Poulsen co-founded the death metal band Dominus, recording four fast, brutal albums in the mid-’90s. While working on songs for Volbeat’s 2021 album, “Servant Of The Mind,” Poulsen crafted a collection of death metal riffs and stored them on his phone. After completing the Volbeat record, he rekindled the fire of Armageddon and formed his new death metal band, ASINHELL. Their debut album, “Impii Hora” (Latin for Ungodly Hour), pays tribute to Poulsen’s favorite old-school groups, blending crushing riffs with powerful guitar hooks and shout-along refrains.
“Impii Hora” will be released on September 29 via Metal Blade. Pre-order it HERE
Today, the band shares the official video for “Fall of the Loyal Warrior,” celebrated by Consequence as a return to Poulsen’s roots!
Poulsen expressed, “The song is kind of a tribute to bands I love, like Bolt Thrower, Entombed, Autopsy, Grave, and Darkthrone. They’re the reason why we can do this in the first place, and we’re proud to wear our influences on our sleeve. The album was inspired by late ’80s and early ’90s old school death metal, and one of our brightest points of inspiration was the mighty Death, fronted by the legendary Chuck Schuldiner. There’s a lot of Death in there. Schuldiner is one of my favorite death metal vocalists, the other being our vocalist Marc [Grewe]. So to me, this song is the combination of two of my favorites. ‘Let the metal flow,’ as Chuck would have said!”
Poulsen collaborated with longtime friend and neighbor, drummer Morten Toft Hansen (Raunchy), on crafting the death metal revival. The duo began jamming on riffs, setting up in Morten’s tiny garage, with no mics or P.A., just a drum kit and a combo amp turned all the way up, reminiscent of their teenage days. They swiftly created new songs every time they met. To add vocals, Poulsen turned to his good friend and one of his all-time favorite death metal growlers: Marc Grewe (Insidious Disease, ex-Morgoth).
“I had known Michael quite a long time and he always mentioned that we should do a death metal project one day, but I never took him too seriously because he was so busy with Volbeat,” Grewe says. “Then he called for real and said, ‘Yeah, I want to do it now. Are you up for it?’ Immediately, I was like, ‘Yes, of course!'”
Completing the trio, Volbeat producer Jacob Hansen stepped in to produce, mix, and play bass on their debut album. For lead guitar, Poulsen enlisted his friend and The Arcane Order axeman, Flemming C. Lund.
The album will be available in various formats:

Amidst their festival season, symphonic metal titans EPICA make a powerful return with another live single from their upcoming digital EP, Live At The AFAS Live. Originally the title track of their second studio album, and one of EPICA’s heaviest tracks, ‘Consign To Oblivion’ has not only become a real classic but also the ultimate final song of most EPICA shows, always starting with an obligatory wall of death right after the intro.
Mark Jansen comments, “Over the years ‘Consign to Oblivion’ became our favorite track to conclude our shows with. Every time we tried another track, it never had the same impact as Consign to Oblivion. I’m happy everyone can now witness the live version that we played in Amsterdam to a fantastic home-country-crowd!”

The eagerly anticipated second leg of ARMORED SAINT’s North American tour supporting W.A.S.P. has been canceled due to extensive back injuries suffered by W.A.S.P.’s Blackie Lawless during the European leg of the run. The tour will be canceled so Lawless can complete a full recovery. Tickets and VIP packages can be refunded at the point of purchase.
ARMORED SAINT vocalist John Bush comments, “To say we are super bummed about the tour being canceled would be an understatement. We were all prepping hard, and I was looking forward to turning 60 years old in Wheeling, West Virginia. That being said, we understand Blackie’s physical condition and we stand behind him and hope for a speedy recovery. Thank you to all the fans who purchased tickets and VIP packages. The Concert Tickets and VIP packages can be refunded at the point of purchase. Armored Saint VIP Upgrade holders should go to national-acts.com for a full refund. Thank you for all your loyalty as always! I’m gonna turn a negative into a positive and let you know that his little snafu has allowed us to start writing songs for a new record. It’s sounding killer!”

Los Angeles progressive death metal group, THE ZENITH PASSAGE, releases their second full-length studio album, “Datalysium,” via Metal Blade Records. The album features an overhauled lineup, including original guitarist/keyboardist/backing vocalist Justin McKinney, guitarist Christopher Beattie, vocalist Derek Rydquist, and bassist Brandon Giffin. “Datalysium” showcases the band’s blend of technical head-fuckery, atmosphere, melody, and shifting dynamics, capturing the listener’s undivided attention throughout.
Check out the video for the title track, “Datalysium,” here.
Decibel Magazine praises the album, likening the songs to a creepy daddy longlegs spider, while Metal Injection simply states, “it rips!”
The album was recorded at various locations, with McKinney’s home studio and Rydquist’s apartment being primary spots, and vocals tracked at Flatline Audio with Dave Otero, who also mixed the album. The release is available in standard LP, limited-edition LP, CD, and digital formats. You can get it at metalblade.com/thezenithpassage.

Norwegian death metallers, CADAVER, have finally released their long-awaited sixth studio album, “The Age Of The Offended,” via Nuclear Blast Records. True to the band’s primitive roots and an audacious, ground-breaking, psychedelic horror show, the album is an angry, fucked up album for angry, fucked up times, defiantly created against the odds.
Check out the lyric video for the menacing track, ‘Deadly Metal,’ here:

For “The Age Of The Offended,” the band compiled footage about today’s climate of everyone being offended and what it means to music and art. The first episode discusses the band’s legacy, being involved in the Norwegian Extreme Metal scene, and takes fans around Oslo on the ‘Black Metal Bus Sightseeing Tour.’ Watch CADAVER TV Episode 1 – the ‘Black Metal Tour Oslo’ here:
“The Age Of The Offended” was recorded at Daufembach Studio, Villa Necro, Studio Tomb, and Studio Studio. Adair Daufembach was responsible for producing, engineering, mixing, and mastering. Kjartan Hesthagen also assisted with the engineering, working in tandem with the band and Adair. The band enlisted Fleshflies to create the artwork for “The Age Of The Offended.”
The UK’s heavy metal machine SYLOSIS unveils the title track of their brand-new album, ‘A Sign Of Things To Come’. The new song speaks from Josh Middleton’s position as a new father and his fears of the world that his children will one day inherit.
Josh comments “‘A Sign Of Things To Come’ is a declaration of dismay towards the modern world. It’s about the anxiety of what the future holds and the feeling of division in a society where everyone is pitted against each other. This was the last song to be written for the album. It quickly became apparent that this was going to be one of the biggest, most anthemic songs on the record.”
Produced by Josh Middleton, alongside production legend, Scott Atkins, A Sign Of Things To Come has challenged SYLOSIS into brand-new territory.
“This is the first time I’ve allowed myself to be produced; taking on some brutal criticism and pushing myself to deliver the best vocal performance of my career. I’m a big fan of progressive and long albums, but I was ruthless on myself during the whole process. I think that shows in the final result on the record!” Josh states.
SYLOSIS is on tour this winter with fellow UK metal giants, MALEVOLENCE on the dates below.

Melbourne-based blackened deathcore group MÉLANCOLIA shares the video for ‘HissThroughRottenTeeth,’ the title track from their debut album released on April 21st via Greyscale Records and Nuclear Blast Records.
‘HissThroughRottenTeeth’ immerses listeners in a torturous tale of birth, life, and death, chronicling a fallen deity cast down from a godly realm and met with the punishment of reincarnating as a human with a wealth of knowledge yet stripped entirely of power.
MÉLANCOLIA showcases their live performance later this month as they support TO THE GRAVE on the Destroy All Lines presented ‘Director’s Cuts East Coast Tour.’ The band will also make their first festival appearance at Adelaide’s Froth & Fury Festival in November.

Guitarist Per Nilsson expressed, “‘Xenotaph’ concludes Phase II in an open-ended way, leaving the listener on a bit of a cliffhanger musically as well as lyrically. We felt strongly that ‘Xenotaph’ deserved its own music video, to bring closure to this second part of our Singularity saga and showcase the song to the fullest, and put the spotlight on our amazing, crowd-sourced choir – it is definitely not the last time we will call upon our fans to sing with us!”

“Sunshine and Rain is the story of a boy from my class, an outsider who became my best friend. Together, we dreamed the dream of being rock stars – all alone, he decided in the end to take a different path. I often think of him, what would have become of him, and how he would look now – and that I owe so much to him – the boy from the school desk in the back who was a friend to me for as long as he could.” – Tom Berger/ Johnny Tupolev.

The Star is a awesome and interesting composition diving deep into the dark truths of technology and society.
The Star Release Schedule is as follows: Bandcamp digital release on July 24, 2023, followed by the CD/USB release on August 21, 2023, and finally the vinyl/tape release in November 2023.
The album’s title was originally ““The Bastard Gods””, but in a twist of perfect irony it was redacted to become “The Star””, because due to current social media algorithms not allowing the use of words such as “Bastard” or the word “Gods”
The lyrical content of the album, explore the effects new technology does and also will have on our psychology through personal and other social interactions, our access to factual news and emerging technolgies influence on the way we vote, as well as exploring the ever-widening class system, and swiftly emerging underclass.
“The Star” questions the increasing influence of social media algorithms as it affects how we perceive the world, what we call “truth”, “facts”, and what we support and shun through our biased and ignorant support of cancel culture.
Zoog says; “The only thing these algorithms care about is keeping users engaged, enraged and buying more disposable trash. The happiness and tragedy you share is merely content to help it achieve the desired goal. Either you play the game, or you don’t exist. I don’t see “light & dark” or “wolves & sheep” anymore, just angry animals trying to ruin each other with disinformation and hate campaigns, and now we have an increasing influence from artificial intelligence; the future is now, and it’s getting very interesting.”
A quick review of “The Star”
1 The Greatest Trick is a informative song about religion, where the point of the track is to tell you it’s a manipultaion.
2 Jump For Joy, A positive song about social activism, “If you’ve done nothing wrong, You have nothing to fear” while communicating that there is no superman, and you can only save yourself from society through self- awareness, and social activism, because the bleak future is about not owning things, and sharing everything which makes us individuals, and those behaviors will cause us to be “happy”.
3 Do The Spin is a slower song than previous tracks about ideology, through technology, and embodying Issac Asimov “Electric Sheep” rhetoric.
4 Sentient, when cyberpunk meets sega, featuring the awesome work of Dave Nato om drums, is a track about the future implications of technology on society.
5 The Game Is Stupid is a down tempo, sludge and doomy piece, which definitely features the Blaster Beam prominently on this track.
6 Tyranny Of The Beat is a upbeat melodic and very dance-able tune, with distorted hardstyle-type bassdrums. The track is about how the media twists and embellishes modern reality, to fit the corporate agenda, and misleading the masses to make incorrect choices, altering our future capacity as humans, to care deeply for ourselves, each other, and for the health of the planet.
7 LockJaw56b, a instrumental tune, prominently featuring both Dave Nato’s syncopative percussion, and The Blaster Beam, which i find to be very creative and evolved compared to Angelspits previous discography.
8 Art Imitates War asks is ignorance bliss ? This track asks the pressing questions, on the lifestyle difference between “modern” society, and a third world country.
9 Pay The Butchers Bill, is a song about how all things come due.
Number 9 is a nice change of pace from the previous track, and very nice track arrangement on the album. Most of the previous songs have been uptempo, fast and aggressive sludgy, doom, and downtempo.
10 Feed The Hungry Ghost is back to the fast paced and exciting uptempo synthesis Anglespit is recognized for, with the hook being “Don’t Sleep”. The Blaster Beam featured again promintently, staring in this this track from the beginning.
11 Posessed By A Demon is a harsh, but etheral and fast tempo arrangement, evocative of punk music, with a skank dance attached, expelling the hazards of being controlled by consumerism, modern corporate brands, and being manipulted by advertising.
12 The System changes the pace again, slowing down the vibe, and ensuring the listener is consciously aware of the content: manifactured capatialism, and the relentless corruption which is inherent in a capitalist society.
13 Jesters Priviledge is the last track, and leaves us with thoughts and wishes we all have from time to time: Are we human, or are we machine ?
What seperates those lifestyles, and what do they enatil in our society, being treated as less than human, a number, a self-centered numb sub-human, because to stand out, be yourself, and to be vulnerable, is a captital crime worthy of being prosecuted and judged by cancel culture.
