Sam Rosenthal (Founder of Projekt Records) interview with The Big Takeover

projektlogo.jpg BigTakeover-2024s.jpg Projekt’s Sam Rosenthal was interviewed for the online edition of The Big Takeover, a New York City-based print magazine. Sam discusses Projekt’s 40th Anniversary and his musical projects.

Excerpt:

MF: So what does interest you?

SR: I hear a good electronic/ambient demo every week. I gotta restrain myself from releasing them all. An amazing thing about 2023 vs 1997 is Projekt can release a new album every week, when it’s digital-only. We don’t have the financial and storage restraints of physical product like in the 90s. Back then, there were years where Projekt only had 2 new releases. But back then, a release could be promoted for 6 – 12 – 18 months. Those Lycia, and Black Tape and Love Spirals Downwards releases had long legs (as they say). Now, the stream wants to be replenished continuously.

MF: But you managed to get some fantastic and important bands on the label, and not all of them hitting that darkwave/deathrock vibe, either.

SR: Fortunately, yes. I have some of the most important classic American Ambient/electronic releases on Projekt. Steve Roach’s Structures from Silence, Quiet Music, Dreamtime Return and Michael Stearns’ Planetary Unfolding. They weren’t originally on Projekt, I licensed them from the artists over the years. Steve and I have been working together since the early 90s. We have a long collaboration, and he has 100 (more?) releases on Projekt! And Projekt is releasing the 40th anniversary remastered edition of Structures in February 2024. Many people think about the 90s heyday of Projekt’s darkwave releases, but when the clock struck 2000 Projekt only had around 100 releases, and now Projekt’s is releasing its 417th release. And there are 300 more on the Archive digital-only label. The ongoing focus has become artists in the space music ambient genres: Steve, Erik Wøllo, Forrest Fang, Stearns, and many others.

(KONTRAVOID – DETACHMENT) via Artoffact Records

Kontravoid
Detachment
Artoffact Records
1 March 2024
Kontravoid has emerged from beneath his walls of synthesizers with an irresistibly infectious new single ‘For What It Is’ & announced a new album. ‘Detachment’, will be available worldwide on March 1st via Toronto’s Artoffact Records.

Carefully strung together with brilliantly arpeggiated synths, dark, brooding vocals, and ascending pop hooks, the album’s first single foreshadows the rest of the album and can easily be left on repeat and enjoyed multiple times without lacking a new sonic discovery on each listen.

Kontravoid’s masked mystique has remained for over a decade. Ever since the release of his self-titled LP in 2012, the Canadian-born, LA-based Cameron Findlay has perfected dark pop with a unique composition which moves eloquently through the EBM, electro and goth genres. His past releases, such as 2019’s “Too Deep” and 2021’s “Faceless,” have no trouble reaching the most derelict corners of foggy, strobe-lit clubs, leaving listeners with no choice but to dance. With an uncanny softness and unmistakable songwriting ability, Kontravoid composes heart-wrenching songs that are both captivating and drenched in melancholy – showcased on 2018’s “Undone”, which has been lauded as a fan favorite since its release.

DROP VIDEO FOR BRAND NEW SINGLE ´BECOME SURRENDER´
ON TOUR WITH MESHUGGAH IN MARCH
Gothenburg´s Finest are back! THE HALO EFFECT present a brand new single to their fans with ´Become Surrender´. The track has been a staple of their live shows for a while now, and has quickly become a fan-favourite.
It´s a multi-faceted song with neck breaking riffs, grooving drums and beautiful melodies which will leave you spellbound.

Mikael Stanne comments:Become Surrender´ was written and recorded during the Days Of The Lost sessions, but for some reason we left it out of the album. It has been something we have played during festivals and on our tours and the response has been nothing short of fantastic, so we decided to release it in the interim before we start rolling out singles for the second album. The video was shot during our sold out show at Pustervik here in our hometown of Gothenburg in front of a few of our closest friends and hopefully the joy and love we felt in the room that night shines through.
It’s a song about perseverance over distance and not giving in to despair or doubt. Turn it up!”

SIGHT TO SOUND DELUXE EDITION AHEAD OF U.S. & EUROPEAN TOURS

North Carolinas stellar progressive metal band STELLAR CIRCUITS has announced the release of a Deluxe Edition of their breakthrough album, Sight To Sound, out now from Nuclear Blast Records. The critically praised record has been digitally reissued with 4 unreleased bonus tracks, just ahead of their first European tour with PERSEFONE, HYPNO5E and LAMPR3A in February/March and U.S. dates with CALVA LOUISE and VUKOVI in May.

Commenting on the Sight To Sound Deluxe Edition and tour, vocalist Ben Beddick says:

Were excited to finally release the extra tracks from the Sight to Sound recordings. Overall we felt that these songs were best presented as a deluxe or extended version of the album. The 4 extra tracks all seem to have a common tonality and hold a place thats all their own within the sequence of our new record.

The fact that this release coincides with our first ever international tour makes it that much better. We cannot wait to play these new songs for the fine folks of these European nations. It will be a dream come true.

About STELLAR CIRCUITS:

Formed in 2015, Stellar Circuits emerged to combine the conceptual polarities of groove-oriented music with progressive-minded technicality. Over the quartets lifespan, theyve managed to fulfill their own prophecy, formulating a core sound that is complex and layered, while providing a listenability that extends well beyond the rock genre. Visceral, intellectual, groovy, technical, and melodious are rarely indicators that can all be used to describe the aural essence of one band. In the case of Stellar Circuits, the rare combination makes a striking and definitive appearance in all they do.

The Winston-Salem, NC foursome followed their 2015 debut EP with their first full-length album in 2018. Ways We Haunt would be recorded with North Carolinas own Jamie King (Between The Buried And Me, He Is Legend), a legend in his own right, bringing his signature touch to Stellar Circuits first long form release.

Generating significant attention, especially from the bands more veteran industry peers, Stellar Circuits would go on to be invited as special guests on Chevelles 2021 N.I.R.A.T.I.A.S. tour. Completing a nationwide trek that introduced Stellar Circuits to a significantly broader audience, the foursome immediately saw their fanbase increase exponentially, prompting a shift in their attention to a new record with which they could continue to build on the solid foundation they had since established.

Sight to Sound, Stellar Circuits sophomore release, sees the band working once again with Jamie King to convey their growth and expansion on what they do best. Vocalist frontman Ben Beddick highlights the forward momentum, relaying how the band wanted to push past the point of comfort when writing this music. To make something real and honest that we can all stand by.

Released in 2023 via Nuclear Blast Records, Sight to Sound expands upon the progressive and groove-centric nature of the band; combining a heaviness, a catchiness, and strength of composition with technical proficiency that results in Stellar Circuits most polished release to date. Vocalist Ben Beddick further expands on the writing process and the records trajectory, marking a turning point around the beginning of the writing process that steered us toward a particular conceptual direction. Moving closer to an understanding of the perception of our senses. This record is meant to serve as a sort of invocation. A sense of qualia. The term synesthesia comes to mind.

Comprised of vocalist Ben Beddick, bassist Jesse Olsen, guitarist Jared Stamey and drummer Tyler Menon, the North Carolina quartet produce an effective and unparalleled coalescence that will undoubtedly excite new listeners while more than satisfying long-term followers. Featuring 11 original tracks that are poised to impress even the most discerning of aficionados, Sight to Sound puts the global music landscape on notice that Stellar Circuits has definitively arrived.

ACYLUM – Zuchthaus 2CD

Product
The sulphurous German duo, Nadine and Pedro Engel, unleash their latest controversial masterpiece, "Zuchthaus," a full-length album that embodies darkness in its rawest form.

With the unapologetic rallying cry "Fight! Victory or Death," ACYLUM thrusts us back onto the merciless battlegrounds, where the echoes of war persist eternally. Humanity, it seems, remains blind to its own follies, perpetuating a cycle of chaos. ACYLUM’s trademark confrontational stance immerses us in the unbearable ambiance of the Cold War, gulags, murders, massacres, betrayals, madness, and unrelenting misery.

This is undeniably ACYLUM’s most sombre and despair-ridden album to date. The tone plunges to profound depths of tragedy, the beats resound with martial heaviness, the music emanates noir coldness, vocals are aggressively charged with emotion, and the atmosphere lingers in profound sadness. ACYLUM’s potent and sinister sound seizes you, gripping your throat and suffocating you with its oppressive industrial noise sequences, fortified by bombastic orchestrations and sense-inflicting vocal sample manipulations. A mystical touch of Nordic mythology also looms ominously in the background.
Despite the darkness, ACYLUM’s unique songwriting alchemy transforms these harsh electro-dark tunes into addictive melodic anthems from the underworld. Tracks like "Gabriel" and "1000 Meilen" introduce slower, melancholic moments, evoking the haunting sound of their TOTEM OBSCURA side-project.
Let the parade of fools commence…

The initial release of the album emerges as a limited 2CD digipak edition, featuring remixes by formidable bands including :WUMPSCUT:, SUPREME COURT, DIFFUZION, DARKNESS ON DEMAND, STUDIO-X, NEIKKA RPM, RROYCE, PROJECT ERRATIC, WINTERHART, SAY JUST WORDS, HUMAN VAULT, ALIEN:NATION, DYSKOLIA, DEADLY INJECTION. The cacophony of darkness awaits.

SYNAPSYCHE – Anti 2CD

Product
SYNAPSYCHE’s 4th studio album, "Anti," takes you on an intense journey through 12 tracks of melodic dark elektro / industrial pop. This conceptual release delves into the rebellious odyssey of a 21st-century-born Messiah, diverging from the path of Jesus Christ. Each song carries a double meaning, touching on provocative themes such as euthanasia, betrayal, adultery, feminism, love’s demise, and occultism à la Lavey/Crowley.

The Italian duo skilfully guides listeners through a blasphemous sonic experience, narrating the unconventional saga of their "Anti"-hero. From the euphoric synthetic creation of a new messiah in a world in chaos and in search of guidance, to the temptations of death and ascension, miracles, passion, and ultimately, a descent into pathetic misery.

"Anti" showcases SYNAPSYCHE’s mastery, seamlessly blending opposites – distorted darkness with ecstatic grooves, catchy melodies with incisive assaults. With 12 hard-hitting tracks, the album features a vocal guest appearance by AESTHETIC PERFECTION and LORD OF THE LOST on "Silvertongue" and "The Last Dying Flame," respectively, both also contributing to this delicious clash of harsh devilish growls with heavenly future pop choruses.

In this magnum opus, SYNAPSYCHE exudes majesty, elegance, and might, mirroring their "Anti-hero". Their sound identity spans dark-electro to synthpop, industrial to EBM, aggrotech to techno, appealing to fans of VNV NATION, COMBICHRIST, SOLAR FAKE, FADERHEAD, GRENDEL, and more.
There’s no turning back—"It’s too late to apologize." God is dead, long live SYNAPSYCHE!

The limited edition 2CD digipak of the album includes a lush booklet artwork and an exclusive bonus CD, "Apocryphal Psalms," featuring unique versions and remixes by artists such as DARKNESS ON DEMAND, LOVELORN DOLLS, AIBOFORCEN, ACYLUM, MISS SUICIDE, FRAGILE CHILD, ZEITGEIST2511, STATIK SEKT, MATT HART, DILATORY DESTRUCTION…

IMPLANT – No More Flies On The Windscreen -The Chaos Machines part 1 CD

Product
Len Lemeire’s declaration, ‘No boundaries, no compromises, only chaos and machines!’ sets the tone for IMPLANT’s groundbreaking “Chaos Machines” trilogy, a sonic journey into the heart of 2024. Brace yourself for the inaugural chapter, “The Chaos Machines Part 1 – No More Flies On The Windscreen” hitting you with unapologetic force on CD, with vinyl and more conceptual companions following suit later this year.

This 12th studio album is a testament to 3 years of unbridled sonic exploration, an audacious clash against algorithms, and a rollercoaster of accidental genius from the dynamic duo of bearded divas Jan D’hooghe and Len Lemeire. Far from losing control, the Belgian pair opted to let chaos reign, transforming mellow ambient tracks into mesmerizing psy-trance industrial cuts with poignant vocals. Old school EBM and new wave roots morph seamlessly into addictive electro-pop featuring the lush vocals of NOEMI AURORA. Dark moments evoke echoes of early SKINNY PUPPY, KLINIK’s icy elektro, and the subtle flavors of NIN.
Immerse yourself in the pulsating beat, ready to rock, groove, and reflect with IMPLANT’s electrifying fusion of sound and substance. This hypnotic album, filled with noise, melody, bass, beat, and tongue-in-cheek lyrics, unfolds like a collection of intricate sonic tales, revealing hidden parts and offering new clues with each addictive play.

Remember, with IMPLANT, “it’s always more fun to pick up the pieces”.
Nothing but… IMPLANT!"

Goliath was recorded at JFD Studios in Dallas, TX and Studio City, CA as well as The Cabin in Orlando, FL by J-F Dagenais, who also produced and engineered the album. For the mixing and mastering, the band returned to Chris Clancy with assistance from Colin Richardson. The cover artwork required an image that captured the iconic battle of David versus Goliath theme that is echoed throughout the album while matching the power of the music. The band enlisted renowned Berlin metal illustrator Eliran Kantor (TESTAMENT, FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE) to create the artwork which took the KATAKLYSM look and gave it a macabre filter that compliments the brooding sense of uneasiness that was felt during the writing and recording of the album.

KMFDM “AIRHEAD” VIDEO

KMFDM – Doing it Again? Not quite so.

Hot on the heels of the release of KMFDM’s first single, the banger ‘LET GO,’ from the forthcoming album of the same name—set to be released on Metropolis Records on 2.2.2024—comes their second single, "AIRHEAD."

Defying all common definitions and shredding all preconceived notions about who or what KMFDM is or isn’t genre-wise, on their second offering, the band delivers a unique gem that lyrically harkens back to growing up in America during the 70s and 80s. It’ll have you reminiscing with a wink and a laugh as Lucia Cifarelli delivers the opening lines:

"Born the year of the Chia pet – Blondes were in, but I’m brunette – Vietnam and Donkey Kong – I was busy getting high with Cheech & Chong.”

The accompanying video for "AIRHEAD," directed and produced by 210 Media, is a sentimental joyride that takes you on a trip down memory lane through the eyes of a child from a bygone era of American life.

At this stage in the game, the name Whitechapel commands respect. Already sitting on one of the most enviable catalogs in contemporary metal, in 2019 they dropped The Valley, showcasing a confident evolution in their sound and standing as a true landmark release that sets a new standard for the genre. "To me, it was like the stars aligning for us to create our almost perfect record in regard to songwriting, vocal performance, the mix and master, and the artwork," says guitarist Alex Wade. "We like to look at our albums as chapters of our career, and that is one chapter I will never forget. I think it really solidified that we can embrace a new sound, and if we execute it properly, then the fanbase is going to support and enjoy it." In 2021, they return with that album’s successor, the mighty Kin, which is an even more dynamic and diverse collection, further advancing the band’s sound into new territory without losing sight of what brought them to this point.

"I feel with every album, we learn what worked best on the last one and try to utilize that in our writing. Early in the writing, there was some discussion of the album being like ‘The Valley’ part II, not literally called that, but in how the songs sound and flow through it. It’s very much a storytelling type record like ‘The Valley’ was," adds vocalist Phil Bozeman, "Musically, we just want to create what we vibe with at the given moment. We write music with how we feel and not what is expected of us, while lyrically the idea of continuing from the story of ‘The Valley’ was always the goal."

"For a generation of fans, WHITECHAPEL are the most legitimately brutal band of the deathcore movement." – Kerrang!

"… one of the more unique metal bands still making music today." – Metal Injection

"Phil Bozeman… commanded the stage and seemed to tower over the audience as he walked across the monitors…The band’s ability to combine powerful music with fun and energetic stage presence made for an unforgettable night of metal music." – Pop Break

"Their performance… was superb and felt so nostalgic. As a Knoxville native, I have been a WHITECHAPEL fan for longer than I can remember and to see these guys evolve over the last fifteen years has been incredible to witness. Their humble demeanor and professionalism shine on and off the stage." – Keynote Music Collective

CARNIFEX recently released their latest album, Necromanteum, through Nuclear Blast Records. The album is available to stream and purchase on various formats at https://carnifex.bfan.link/necromanteum

The recording process for Necromanteum took place over the course of several weeks with producer Jason Suecof in Florida and saw the return of live drums since COVID-19 restrictions made doing so on Graveside Confessions impossible. Mastered by Mark Lewis in Nashville, TN, the album was also co-produced by vocalist Scott Ian Lewis and drummer Shawn Cameron. The cover artwork glows with an emerald and lavender fog; a ghostly energy erupting from the depths of a cemetery. Designed by renowned comic book artist E.M. Gist, this gateway represents the questions we ask about what lies on the other side of reality.

Decades ago, wealthy intellectuals began installing psychomanteum in their homes; a secret room completely filled with mirrors, or a single mirror, and in complete darkness, in order to speak to the dead in other dimensions, and gain their knowledge. It was often used as a healing tool to help dissolve grief or considered a form of prophecy. Necromanteum presents the concept: What if you could use that kind of room to speak with death, itself? What secrets of the world could you uncover from a direct conversation with the grim reaper? Not a monster, but a fellow intellect.

In the mid-1980s, Denmark’s ARTILLERY established themselves as being at the cutting edge of the thrash movement. Four decades later, they continue to destroy. The band’s most recent studio offering – the aptly titled, X – was released in 2021 via Metal Blade Records. X was tracked in Medley Studio in Copenhagen, Denmark with producer Søren Andersen, who the band have worked with on every record since 2009’s When Death Comes. Wrote Blabbermouth upon its release, "Nearly 40 years after their story began, this band is still a unique and exhilarating proposition." Distorted Sound noted, "This is crisp and accessible, there are no unintelligible vocals and they know how to write a beefed-up metal song. This should please the pit and the guys at the back who prefer to sing along in equal measure. If you like the faster side of metal, you owe it to yourself to check this out." Added Ghost Cult, "Bursting with razor-sharp riffs, frantic shredding, and more hooks than a fisherman’s tackle box, X is another outstanding example of classic Danish thrash."

Notorious and prolific Cleveland cult, MIDNIGHT, will unleash its sixth full-length, Hellish Expectations, on March 8th via Metal Blade Records.

One-man-army, Athenar, has been churning out an ungodly racket, dropping countless demos, splits, and EPs for over two decades, ultimately slaying the metal/punk underground with his own, highly addictive brand of lust, grime, and sleaze. Filthy, belligerent, and unapologetically obnoxious, MIDNIGHT makes music to start fights to and in 2024 Athenar returns with Hellish Expectations, a ten-track sonic assault of blackened heavy metal nefariousness.

"It’s a knuckle dragger with a fat cutoff," elaborates Athenar, "Pure testosterone meat. Probably the most concise and straight to the point MIDNIGHT album to date, and all written in a weekend. The album was written on pure reaction upon leaving the studio after listening to raw tracks from the previous album Let There Be Witchery. The final mix of that album was good, but at the time of laying it down in the studio, I didn’t like what I was hearing and demanded a new leviathan of an album to be written that weekend."

In advance of the official unveiling of Hellish Expectations, MIDNIGHT has dropped the record’s first single, album closer "F.O.A.L." (AKA "Fuck Off And Live"), alongside an accompanying video.

Proclaims Athenar, "‘Fuck Off And Live’ is an ode to the people who peacefully want to die to escape the realities of life, while they should really live and suffer."

Experimental death metallers JOB FOR A COWBOY are pleased to unleash "Beyond The Chemical Doorway," the latest single from their long-awaited new full-length, Moon Healer, set for release on February 23rd via Metal Blade Records. The release marks the iconic outfit’s first new full-length in a decade!

Moon Healer is a vivid illustration of what happens when creativity, aggression, and volatility tangle for the first time in years. Like the band’s critically adored, 2014-released Sun Eater full-length, Moon Healer is musically multifaceted, unabashedly brutal, and compellingly conceptual. Featuring a newly refreshed and reinspired lineup of frontman and co-founder Jonny Davy, guitarists Tony Sannicandro and Al Glassman, bassist Nick Schendzielos, and drummer (since 2020) Navene Koperweis, the band seamlessly picks up the mantle where Sun Eater left off.

JobForACowboy-MoonHealer.jpg

Compared to past offerings, Moon Healer is as bone-crushing as JOB FOR A COWBOY has ever been. But it’s more consistent and conceptual, composed with the utmost enthusiasm and confidence. "The evolution of our sound has become a big part of the band," Davy says. "As we mature as musicians, our tastes and interests naturally expand. With age comes more experience and ideas that we wouldn’t have considered in our earlier years."

When discussing the lyrical genesis of songs "Grinding Wheels Of Ophanim," "Into The Crystalline Crypts," and latest single, "Beyond The Chemical Doorway," Davy’s writing gets cryptic and elliptical-sounding, part Philip K. Dick, part Timothy Leary. "I envision this as a death metal album born from the mystical confines of an alchemist’s laboratory. The music acts as potent potions, inducing hallucinogenic journeys that unlock the secrets of the universe."

With "Beyond The Chemical Doorway," Davy explores Gnosticism — an occult teaching based on Gnosis, a state of transcendence achieved through intuitive, unconventional means — by way of Hieronymus Bosch’s art. Elaborates Davy, "On Moon Healer, we unravel the dismal narrative of a close friend consumed by an unwavering pursuit of enlightenment. They achieve this through a compulsive embrace of hallucinogenic drugs. This storyline emerges from the foundation set in our earlier album, Sun Eater, delving deeper into the intricacies brewing within our friend’s psyche.

"When under the influence of these drugs," he continues, "this individual claimed to encounter entities and find themselves in indescribable worlds that defy rational comprehension. Many who undergo such experiences draw intriguing parallels between diverse facets of Gnostic philosophy, biblical depictions of angels, and the stages of Bardo Thodol delineated in the Tibetan Book Of The Dead. In the album’s opener, ‘Beyond The Chemical Doorway,’ our friend vividly voices his hallucinations, recounting the experience of breaching forbidden, gnostic-like realms, with each account culminating in the utter unraveling of his being."

Moon Healer was produced by Jason Suecof (Death Angel, The Black Dahlia Murder, Deicide) at his Audiohammer Studios and is the first JOB FOR A COWBOY album to feature session drummer Navene Koperweis (ex-Animosity). Davy previously worked with Koperweis in the progressive death metal side project Fleshwrought, which released Dementia/Dyslexia through Metal Blade in 2010. Koperweis also worked as a session drummer for Machine Head and Whitechapel and is currently in the band Entheos, whose third full-length came out on Metal Blade in March 2023.

Just One Fix Release New Single ‘Gods & Devils

Denis Diderot Quote:

  • Man will never be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest. …

This is the basis for the lyrics on the new Just One Fix single ‘Gods & Devils’, it’s also the first offering from the band since 2017’s Death In The Family and the first to feature “new” drummer Ross Curtain (ex-Enoch & Silent Torture).

“We wanted to deliver something that was as unforgiving and unrelenting as monarchy’s and faith based cults have consistently imposed on people around the world for the last millennia and beyond” says vocalist Riccardo Ball, “Diderot was spot on with this and it’s as relevant now as it’s ever been”.

Andre Avanessian from Radio Airplay called the song “an unapologetic, attitude-strewn metaller that refuses to pull any punches and instead delivers a chest-rattling and head-crushing thrash anthem that’s sure to get many a metal lover’s blood well and truly pumping”.

Jack from Flash-Trax.com simply says, “Lemmy is nodding approvingly through a cloud of Marlboro smoke. Oo-fucking-rah! Peerless.

Gods & Devils is a colossal punch in the face, sonically battering your ears into submission with a Slayer-like ferocity. Thrash metal at its essence, the track has equal parts weight and groove as well as murderous intent.

NEUTRINA herald their long-awaited EP with “Deathocracy”

If there were awards for consistency, this Bydgoszcz-based band would be granted one for sure!! Even working in remote countries hasn’t stopped them from finalizing their first official release. The EP “Fresh Flesh” is going to see the light late March.

In the meantime. Neutrina dropped “Deathocracy” in the form of a digital single (available on all the streaming services) and a lyric video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ScItHgYVstE

Their approach to thrash is both American and European, and the lyrical content touches the war on Ukraine.

The band was formed in 2013 by the guitarists Miko and Zukier, who met on their way to Metalfest. Moraw sat behind the drums, and Spawacz grabbed the bass and microphone. With this lineup, the first single was released. After a short time they recorded an EP, which never saw daylight. They played a few concerts, visited a couple of cities, and in the meantime Eryk replaced Zukier, and Młody sat behind the drumkit. It stayed that way until the hell swallowed them up.

With the same lineup, they broke through the hordes of evil, screwed million of demons and returned to the world of the living. Their rage is reaching its peak, so they’re eager to smash a few places where they can!

SEVERED ANGEL’S SOPHOMORE RELEASE “SKYWARD” HAS THEM MOVING UPWARD

Severed Angel, the New York/Pennsylvania-based melodic metal band, returns with their long-awaited sophomore release “Skyward.” After the succes s and acclaim of their self-titled debut album released in 2023, “Skyward” showcases the band evolving as songwriters while maintaining their original, melodic sound.

“One of the liberating things about being an independent band is that you do not have ‘yes’ men telling you what you can and cannot do,” says Severed Angel lead guitarist Lou Mavs. “At the same time, we have 5 capable musicians, songwriters, and arrangers in this band with equal input that know what our band is all about. We care about melody, we care about structure, and we care about presentation. If we do not like the songs, we will not release them.”

Keyboardist Marc Muchnik says “we were wondering how we could top the first album. After a while, topping the first album became less of a priority, and we prioritized good songwriting and performances. In doing that, we not only completed an album to be a worthy successor to the debut – we improved on what made us Severed Angel.

Produced and mixed by Severed Angel lead vocalist/guitarist Alex Repetti and mastered by Joel Wanasek, “Skyward” showcases the band once again taking all its influences, pouring them in the proverbial blender, and creating a new album of some of the most powerful, melodic, thrashing, and complex music of their careers.

“Tyrant On The Throne,” which is the first single off “Skyward,” showcases the band’s appreciation for groove and technical proficiency.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcKatsSlis4 (video link)

“Not only is it the first single from the album,” says Severed Angel drummer Wayne Noon, “but it is also our first animated music video. Our friend Mandeer, who is the bassist of the band Frostbite BC, wanted to animate a video that fit the song, and we were open to his ideas. It is a very entertaining video where the soundtrack of our music fits hand in hand with it.”

“Skyward” will be released on Tuesday, May 3rd, 2024, on all their streaming platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp, YouTube, and Amazon Music). You can pre-order physical copies on their website https://SeveredAngel.com starting Tuesday, February 13th.

Get ready to go “Skyward” with Severed Angel!

BIO:
Ray Alder and Jim Matheos’ musical legacy is vast and lauded, both as collaborators and individuals. Alder has been the vocalist and main co-writer for prog metal heroes Fates Warning for the past 35 years. With them, he has recorded 10 albums between 1988 (No Exit) and 2020 (Long Day Good Night). Further rounding out his discography are seven albums with Redemption, two solo albums, and the band A-Z with Mark Zonder, which debuted in 2022.

Prolific and pioneering guitarist/producer Matheos is a co-founder of Fates Warning, the lineup debuting with 1984’s Night on Bröcken on Metal Blade. In addition to 13 albums with Fates, Matheos’ myriad other work includes several solo albums, four albums alongside former Dream Theater keyboardist Kevin Moore, under the name OSI, and new band, Kings of Mercia, a lineup that’s been termed "a hybrid; it’s heavy, but not metal."

"Throughout Really Good Terrible Things, Matheos and Alder serve up the kind of seductive melancholy Fates Warning fans will recognize," says Jeff Wagner, author of the Fates Warning book Destination Onward. "Yet there’s a thoroughly different approach here: vocals are delivered with a sort of nostalgic sadness, and the guitar work is layered in such a way as to feel dreamlike. These are rich sonic landscapes, visiting places haunting, beautiful, spectral and secret. The Matheos/Alder partnership is taken to some new and wonderful places here," Wagner concludes.

Really Good Terrible Things shows the breadth and versatility of the acclaimed pair, along with a freshness that belies their long musical partnership. "We both still love making music and we really enjoy working together. There’s a good amount of chemistry there, I think," Matheos shares. "We both know what to expect from each other."

Faderhead 💬 02-2024: The Hell We Need (New Single Out Now!)

5630e072-e874-4c8b-9ace-c659276200bd.png
FEBRUARY 2024
How are you? How did you spend the first month of the year?

I spent it promoting the first single of 2024, which was "Burn All Night" feat. Electra Black and which did quite well (by my modest standards) on Spotify, where it outperformed all my usual hits:

7c426577-a446-7eb3-62c3-380077b253ec.jpg
I’m always happy when I see my Spotify Top 5 and there’s only one really old song ("TZDV") in there, because that means that it’s absolutely possible in this scene to release new tracks and have people listen to them.

I also started two new video series on my socials:

1) "Faderhead Track You Might Not Know" – where I briefly talk about a lesser known song and give some background info

2) "Comment Replies" – where I answer comments directly on video.

If you haven’t seen either of these, they are on IG, FB, Tiktok and YT Shorts.

I am thinking of doing a series, where I go through every song on every album, one-by-one. That series would go on forever!

This newsletter is going to be quite long, so let’s get to the new stuff below!

CONCERTS

We are playing this year’s only UK show on May 4, 2024 at Electrowerkz in London!

Come see us live:

Feb 10, 2024 – Matrix, Bochum / DE – Tickets
May 4, 2024 – Electrowerkz, London / UK – Tickets
Jul 27/28, 2024 – Amphi Festival, Köln/DE – Tickets

NEW SINGLE

Today, on February 1, I am releasing a new single!

In case you didn’t hear: I am planning to release one every month, so the monthly newsletter is probably going to be a "New Single Out Now!"-newsletter for all of this year.

The new single is called "The Hell We Need" and it’s a very poppy ballad in the style of "Better".

6574ddb2-626f-bd33-5c22-000b4298b7e0.jpg
The single is available on Bandcamp and on all streaming/download platforms.

I assume a lot of people will hate it, because it’s not a 4-to-the-floor club thingy. But:

a) that’s their problem and
b) they’ll probably like next month’s single!

"The Hell We Need" is a song about accepting the fact that life won’t always be good and that happiness is not a permanently attainable state. In a nutshell: hell is needed for happiness.

This became somewhat evident when making the song.

THE EVOLUTION

The original demo had been lying around on my harddrive since early 2022 with the "we all need …"-line as the verse and a fake chorus lyric.

In case you don’t know what a fake chorus lyric is: those are either made up words or just la la da da na na vocalisations as placeholders.

I go through my folder with demo MP3s every few months and this track has consistenly come out in the top 10, so I decided to release it as a single.

Of course I had to write proper lyrics, which was quite a struggle, because I tend to not want to deviate from the fake lyrics too much. Both in terms of syllable count and vowel shaping.

That means: if the fake lyrics have 9 syllables in a line and the strong vowels are eeeee and oooo, then the real lyrics have to have that too. Otherwise it doesn’t work for me.

In the end there were 9 completely different versions of choruses, all of which didn’t work for whatever reason.

Once I had settled on a lyric and a topic, I recorded the vocals properly. At that point the song was called "Where Them Sorrows At" and existed in 44 different versions.

6a06a4c7-9c22-7a9e-7868-bc0142b98891.jpg
One of the reason for all these versions is that I initially sang my vocals "too well". They sounded more like a hardrock singer and did not have enough attitude.

So at some point I deleted all the vocals and re-recorded them in a way that sounded more like a hungover guy singing. This made everything better, because making music is not about getting it as clean as possible, but about getting the feeling right. And it wasn’t right.

At that point it was Saturday, January 20 – which you can see from the dates in the file list above. And Monday, Jan 22 was my original deadline for sending everything to Spotify.

At that point I had also been bitching to Gillian for a week, about how I didn’t like the single! And he (correctly) kept telling me that the song is fine and that I am just having my typical episode of hating everything I make once it gets close to deadline.

I am very aware that this always happens, but this time it felt different. So I talked to Danny about it and he said:

"You know, your verse should be the chorus/hook!".

Since I had nothing to lose, I sat down on Saturday Jan 20, opened an empty Cubase project and re-did the whole song.

  1. What was originally the verse ("We all need some hell …") became the chorus.
  2. The 4/4 kickdrum I originally had became a slower kick pattern.
  3. The main bassline was turned into an 808.

And of course I now had to write brand new lyrics for the verses.

7b2d889d-1b41-93be-be8b-30b2848915a4.jpg
As you can see above, I finished mastering on Jan 24 at 7:49 in the morning. Yes, I always do my mixing and mastering revisions right after getting up in the morning, because my ears are still fresh. You should, too!

Uploaded everything to streaming services and planned a half-day video shoot for the next day.

VIDEO HELL

3a6868e1-3791-74e9-9c67-eefe96f6904a.jpg
This is the typical way videos are recorded these days:

  1. a phone set to vertical and
  2. a DSLR camera set horizontally.

That way you can get material for Tiktok/IG/FB and also material for a traditional music video on YouTube.

Lyric videos that just have the lyrics play over the cover artwork are watched considerably less on YouTube, therefore my thinking was to do a quick video of me singing the song in the studio.

So on Jan 25th, my lovely girlfriend and I spent 6h shooting 3 different scenes of me singing the song. She was directing and running the cameras (plus the playback) and I was trying to remember the lyrics.

As some of you know, I have a short-term memory defect after almost dying from meningitis 20 years ago. So remembering lyrics is very difficult for me. Especially lyrics that are brand new.

Of course you can just tape the lyrics somewhere off camera, which is what we did, but it really reduced my ability to perform in front of the camera. Good-looking performance happens when you don’t think. It doesn’t happen when you are struggling to get the lyrics right.

Luckily this was a ballad, so it wasn’t too bad.

29d2bc9f-fc43-ef0a-a4eb-4debf3429801.jpg
The first thing I noticed when beginning to edit the video was that my DSLR was accidentally set to Full HD resolution and not to 4k …

I have no idea why that happened and this taught me once again that having a checklist of things is absolutely necessary. I used to have a lot of checklists, until everything became so much stuff that I abandoned them. I guess I shouldn’t have done that.

Why is FullHD bad? Because we shot on tripods without movement. And I wanted to add some slight camera movement in the edit, which is not really possible if you don’t have enough pixels to work with.

If you don’t know the difference, look at this comparison:

c2bf7c1c-b089-0508-d36e-824d9aeb4697.jpg
Luckily we live in the age of AI! So yesterday, I upscaled the first edit with Topaz Video AI and added camera motion and light leaks later. It’s all very subtle, but it works nicely.

I had already uploaded the video to YouTube and decided to take a bath, which I shoudn’t do, if I don’t want to re-start my work. Because sitting in the bathtub always gives me new ideas. It’s the lack of diversion and the focus on nothing that helps creativity.

In my case I remembered that I have a pen on my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra phone and I thought:

"What if I scribble the text and then superimpose it over the video footage?"

I had previously tried all kinds of different computer fonts, but that none of them looked right.

So, after I had dried of, I scribbled the lyrics like this:

e69093b0-5ed1-72fa-dd7b-14aeb1d7db09.png
And surprise, surprise: it looked good with the video.

So instead of chilling out on the couch or writing this newsletter, I spent 2h placing and animating the titles.

For some reason, I can’t just say "Ah, fuck it! The video is already uploaded! I’ll just leave it like that!". Anyway, I am glad I did.

The added lyrics give me a bit of a Pet Shop Boys – Being Boring vibe:

2e5f16b8-eb48-df38-5353-2ab2c4a1b0fe.jpg
I considered adding some intro text like they did, but then decided against it, for more interpretability.

Fun Fact: ever since I saw the "Being Boring"-video when it came out, the quote

"She was never bored, because she was never boring"

was one of my main mottos in life!

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE ORIGINAL VERSION?

The original version of the new single is up on my Patreon, in case you are curious.

It seems the members really enjoy it:

That’s it from me, Faderhead, for now!

Hope you enjoy the new song and if you do, please remember:

Word of mouth is the most important promotional support you can give, while at the same time it costs absolutely nothing.

So please be a friend and tell a friend about "The Hell We Need!"

Thank you!

About DECAPITATED
Across eight studio albums, DECAPITATED grew from the adolescent dream of teenagers from a small Central European town to one of the leaders of the metal genre. Each successive album further expands the band’s sound with genre-bending authenticity and integrity. As Metal Injection rightfully observed, “any self-respecting death metalhead knows the name well.” Like a rose in the devil’s garden, the DECAPITATED story builds triumph from tragedy. The gleeful grotesquery of extreme metal imagery and riff-tastic bludgeoning beckons listeners to uncover broader truths.

Their latest studio album Cancer Culture was released in 2022, with instantly recognisable devastation and deceptively sinister hooks abound. Newly minted DECAPITATED anthems like ‘Last Supper’, ‘Hello Death’, ‘Just A Cigarette’, ‘No Cure’, ‘Iconoclast’, and ‘Cancer Culture’ shimmer with sonically sharp production and unrelenting bombast. There’s also a newly increased emphasis on melody, even venturing into darkly romantic territory. Wacław "Vogg" Kiełtyka (guitar), Rafał "Rasta" Piotrowski (vocals), Paweł Pasek (bass), and James Stewart (drums) are at the top of their game, delivering the goods at peak performance. Jinjer vocalist Tatiana Shmayluk and Machine Head frontman Robb Flynn make impressive guest appearances. Flynn contributes a hauntingly beautiful vocal to the Cancer Culture track ‘Iconoclast’, with Shmayluk, a formidable screamer, going the clean vocal route on track ‘Hello Death.

Decapitated are:
Waclaw ‘Vogg’ Kieltyka – guitars
Rafał "Rasta" Piotrowski – vocals
James Stewart – drums
Paweł Pasek – bass (live)

About SEPTICFLESH
SEPTICFLESH was formed as ‘Septic Flesh’ in Greece in the early ’90s by Spyridon Antoniou (a.k.a. Seth Siro Anton): vocals/bass, Christos Antoniou: guitar and Sotirios Vagenas (a.k.a. Sotiris Anunnaki V.): guitar/ clean vocals. A debut EP was released in 1991, entitled Temple of The Lost Race. Their first full-length album Mystic Places of Dawn was released in 1994, followed by EΣΟΠΤΡΟΝ that was released in 1995. With the release of Ophidian Wheel in 1997, a female soprano vocalist (Natalie Rassoulis) was introduced, as the band moved towards a more symphonic style. A Fallen Temple (1998) continued in the same musical direction. In 1999, Revolution DNA was released, followed by Sumerian Daemons in 2003, both albums produced by Fredrik Nordström (At The Gates, Opeth, In Flames). Although the band’s popularity was growing, the band members decided to disband, in order to focus on other personal projects and goals. But that was not the end of the story… After a reunion, the band returned with the album Communion in 2008, again with Fredrik Nordström at the helm of production. From that point onwards, the symphonic element (composed by Christos Antoniou, who has a Master’s Degree in Concert Music) was fully implemented in the structure of the songs, with the collaboration of Filmharmonic Orchestra of Prague. The Great Mass (2011) followed with Peter Tägtgren (Hypocrisy, Pain) producing, Titan (2014) with Logan Mader (ex-Machine Head) as producer and Codex Omega (2017) which started the group’s collaboration with Jens Bogren that continues to the very day. In 2020, the recording of the epic and fully orchestrated Live in Mexico entitled Infernus Sinfonica MMXIX was released on CD/LP/DVD/Blu-Ray.

About KATAKLYSM
For almost three decades, KATAKLYSM has delivered unapologetic waves of powerful sound across the entire globe.

The band’s fifteenth full-length studio album, Goliath, was released last August. The record was recorded at JFD Studios in Dallas, TX and Studio City, CA as well as The Cabin in Orlando, FL by J-F Dagenais, who also produced and engineered the album.

KATAKLYSM is:
Maurizio Iacono | Vocals
Jean-François Dagenais | Guitar
Stephane Barbe | Bass
James Payne | Drums

KEYGEN CHURCH will release its stunning Nel Nome Del Codice full-length on March 22nd via Metal Blade Records.

KEYGEN CHURCH is the brainchild of technologist/songwriter Victor Love (Vittorio D’Amore). Love, also of 8-bit phenoms Master Boot Record (MBR), is a one-person outfit, writing, and recording via undisclosed real-time stream events, where the dedicated (and lucky) bear witness to KEYGEN CHURCH‘s spontaneous creative process. Like previous alt code/text art-titled albums ░ ▒ ▓ █(2022) and ░█░█░░█░█░█░ (2022), Nel Nome Del Codice is a modern-primitive love letter to doom/gothic/black metal with foundations in Baroque-era Classical and Romantic-era music. This time, however, Love has refined his sonic tool kit – "the complete set of sounds," he says – the aftereffect of which is computerized big-hall libations like "La Chiave Del Mio Amor," "Nel Nome Del Codice," and "Lode Al Disco Sacro."

Love got his start in music through technology. He was a tech at his father’s computer business, where hands-on experience with hardware and software cultivated a jump to sysadmin at university. From there, the Italian fell into digital marketing and trendsetting. When the KEYGEN CHURCH architect was exposed to pirated software, the intro – called "cracktros" – music was pivotal to the "key generator" culture. The scene (aka "demoscene") that evolved out of that caught his metal-attuned ears and gadget-oriented mind. Master Boot Record and KEYGEN CHURCH are the products and expressions of a bygone bootlegging era thrust into the present through different genre lenses. Suppose the former is inspired by death metal. In that case, the latter is symphonic black metal, and Nel Nome Del Codice is not unlike ArcturusLa Masquerade Infernale or Elend‘s The Umbersun if envisioned by Japanese 8-bit composer Koichi Sugiyama (Dragon Quest).

Love’s work in KEYGEN CHURCH is homage and innovation. He’s a fan of ciphers – astute fans will have to figure out where they’re used on Nel Nome Del Codice. The logo is ASCII art, a "graphic language" created by bulletin board system (BBS) users in the early days of the Internet. While the cover may appear minimalist initially, the 1-bit pixel art by Germany-based illustrator Valenberg (Perturbator, VirtuaVerse) signals KEYGEN CHURCH‘s ascent to their final form. If the metamorphosis is complete, Love’s journey to Nel Nome Del Codice has been inspiring. The refined craftwork of "Lode Al Disco Sacro," "Sulla Via Della Gloria," the nearly eight-minute closer, "Sempre Nel Mio Pensiero," beholds darksome liturgical majesty, the likes of which we’re hearing/experiencing for the first time at our respective pews.

"My plans for KEYGEN CHURCH are long-term," says Love. "I am taking more pipe organ and piano lessons to bring this to the stage with my other bandmates in MBR. I’ll need to do it right or not do it all, though. That means I’ll have to figure out how to bring a pipe organ and piano live – or build a custom instrument. I want our first show to be in a church, and I’ve already got some ideas about how to make that happen. After, I’ll probably drop a new album, the follow-up to Nel Nome Del Codice."

In advance of the record’s release, today KEYGEN CHURCH unveils, "La Chiave Del Mio Amor," with Love noting of the moving hymn, "It’s a Baroque classical computer-generated fugue of pipe organs and piano with thundering drums, razor shaped synth metal riffs and artificial choirs."

BAND: ICE PLANET 9000/ANGELSPIT
ALBUM TITLE: Sequence 2: Star Chamber
KICKSTARTING NOW (April 2024 release)
LABEL: BPRP (US), CAT: BPRP81
GENRE: #darkwave #electronicmusic #darkambientmusic #soundscapes #krautrock
CALLWORDS: Dark Ambient, Deep Space, Science Fiction, Soundtrack, Cinematic, Cosmic
INSPIRATION: 70’s Sci-Fi, Chris Foss, Alejandro Jodorowsky, David Lynch, Bob Moog, Deep Space, Vangelis, Jean-Michel Jarre, Klaus Schulze, Michael Stearns, Steve Roach.

THE ALBUM
The 11 instrumental tracks explore grand cinematic space-based soundscapes. The songs were meticulously produced over a 2-year period using vintage samplers and modular synthesizers. Inspiration came from the 70’s sound of Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis, Tangerine Dream, Steve Roach and Michael Stearns. Three tracks include solos by Colfax Mingo. He plays an electronic wind instrument called the Aerophone which adds gorgeous, dark off-world melodies. Several tracks also feature Blaster Beam, a 6-foot piece of aluminum with 11 piano wires resonating from subsonic to celestial frequencies, creating massive drones and sonic textures.
Sequence 2: Star Chamber is available on CD, USB and digitally. The CD comes with tri-fold panorama artwork and a booklet featuring the story of the album. The USB comes with all 11 tracks as high quality MP3s and 96k 24bit WAV files, plus a whole bunch of extra digital content.
Several music videos have already been released from the album, watch them here:
https://www.youtube.com/@IcePlanet9000/videos

The album’s story picks up directly after the event’s described in our first release. The super tanker ‘Glass Jar‘ has unknowingly taken an unknown lifeform aboard, causing the massive AI driven ship to become fully sentient and spiritually aware. As its last act before being completely taken over by this new consciousness the ship chooses to self-destruct and the resulting explosion transforms its watery cargo into a living nebula of geometric celestial bodies, the Star Chamber.
Sequence 2: Star Chamber is the cinematic soundtrack to a transformational cosmic voyage, and it’s Kickstarting now.

Byron Metcalf & Mark Seelig: Kali Raga (Name-Your-Price Download)

ARC00302.jpg

Byron Metcalf & Mark Seelig: Kali Raga 🌕 Name-Your-Price download at Projekt’s Bandcamp page
🌕 "Legacy" video at YouTube Genres: Ambient, World, New Age, Meditation
RIYL: Mickey Hart, Steve Roach, Zakier Hussain, Peter Kater

Featuring the hypnotizing presence of Frore’s synthesizers.

Tribal-ambient drummer Byron Metcalf and bansuri flute player/overtone singer Mark Seelig unveil their 7th collaboration, Kali Raga. For 20 years they’ve walked the path of empowerment as kindred spirits, creating sonic collaborations that merge modern methods with ancient traditions. These visionary artists blend shamanic, tribal and meditative drumming with classical Indian ragas, captivating melodies, and the hypnotizing presence of Frore (Paul Casper)’s analog and digital synthesizers. Together they realize music that is mystical, contemplative and dynamic, leading the listener towards doors that only deep imagination can open.

“Our concept for this album was to revisit many of the rhythmic and melodic terrains that our music has explored over these many years. The power of Kali and tender curiosity of Raga exquisitely supported us throughout the making of this album.” – Byron Metcalf

A dynamic flow of six mesmerizing tracks continues for an hour, invoking spirit with a serious invitation to those involved in inner exploration, visionary rituals, ceremonies and spiritual practices. Each sonic element falls into place: Byron’s drums and percussion are heart-centered and gentle on some tracks and intensely powerful on others. Mark’s evocative bamboo flutes create a sense of safety and wonder while his overtone singing adds a mysterious depth to the multi-layered sonic sacrament. Similar to the drumming on Kali Raga, Frore’s synthesizers produce a fascinating blend of timeless atmospheres and energized electronic intensity.

Kali Raga – a musical odyssey where the organic meets the electronic, and the ancient blends with the contemporary. This music transcends genres and time, inviting listeners into the magic and mystery of introspection and connection with the universal language of music.

Artists Bio:

Byron Metcalf is an award-winning musician and recording artist, shamanic practitioner and ceremonial leader. His highly successful music business career spans over five decades and covers a wide variety of musical styles and genres. Byron’s extensive catalog of releases is designed to support the transformational arts and is used throughout the world for meditation practices, shamanic journeying, breathwork, various therapy approaches, dance and inspired movement and psychedelic exploration.

Mark Seelig has released 21 albums solo and in collaboration. After early exposure to psychedelic medicines when they were still legal in the late 60s, he became a spiritual seeker, protestant minister, clinical psychotherapist, lead therapist trainer in psychedelic research, disciple of indigenous medicine traditions, and a fascinated student of the North Indian ‘Bansuri’ bamboo flute, leading to 20 years of musical co-creation with award-winning percussionist Byron Metcalf.

Richmond, Virginia metal-punk trio BAT has been delivering their own blood-spattered horror since ascending from the underground a decade ago on a dark, leather-winged trajectory. Today the band forged a new partnership and home at Nuclear Blast Records

BAT‘s Ryan Waste states, "After working the last 14 years with Nuclear Blast we’ve become family at this point. There was no question in my mind to bring BAT under their wing when the time was right. We’re thrilled to join forces and plan to push it even harder with the support of the label. You can expect more touring worldwide, along with new music and visuals as early as this March. Until then, stay heavy and beware of the BAT!"

Nuclear Blast American Label Manager & A&R Tommy Jones comments, "Heavy Metal and horror have been synonymous in our counter-culture since well before ALICE COOPER sang about the ‘Man Behind the Mask’ and DOKKEN stated they ‘Don’t wanna dream no more…’ Through decades of this marriage, and with the influence of a snaggletoothed warpig, BAT was spawned. We have such a great relationship with MUNICIPAL WASTE it made sense to check out Ryan and Nick’s other ripper of a band, BAT. I am excited to open the window at NB and let the BAT fly in! Beware the BAT y’all!"

This Spring, BAT is joining forces with their friends in the legendary EXCITER to play for all the Heavy Metal Maniacs in Latin America for the first time!

Confirmed dates for the Latin American 2024 tour are:

Corlyx – New Single And Music Video "Ghost Of The West Coast"

In a mesmerizing blend of haunting melodies, showcasing a fusion of 80’s post-punk, 90’s grunge, and modern dark wave elements, Corlyx, released their latest single and music video, "Ghost Of The West Coast"! "Ghost Of The West Coast" is a story of transformation and new beginnings. As Caitlin Stokes reveals, the track symbolizes their escape from Los Angeles – a turning point that led to new identities and the inception of Corlyx. The city’s duality, brimming with excitement yet heartbreak, continues to echo in their music as a spectral presence of their past selves. Watch it now here: https://youtu.be/btz59mt1P4g

Caitlin Stokes and Brandon Ashley, the creative force behind Corlyx, about the new song and vibes of their next album:

“Ghost Of The West Coast is the story of our escape from Los Angeles, it really was a last minute decision to leave that city, but it represented so much more than a move, I was a new life we started, new identities and the beginning for us as Corlyx. That city gave us so much, good and bad, thrilling and heartbreaking, the city of Angels will always be the ghost of our former selves.”Caitlin Stokes

Brandon Ashley adds: “Sonically I wanted to blend our classic Corlyx sound with a touch more of 70’s style guitars, we really do touch on each decade of underground music with this simple yet striking track, it’s fun and haunting all together, another vibe we are setting on this next record.”

Brandon’s intent to blend the classic Corlyx sound with a dash of 70’s-style guitars has resulted in a track that is both fun and eerie. This approach perfectly encapsulates the duo’s aim to explore various decades of underground music while maintaining a cohesive and striking sound. You can listen to "Ghost Of The West Coast" nowhere:https://corlyx.lnk.to/GhostOfTheWestCoast. With this new release, Corlyx revisit their roots and also set a new tone for their upcoming record. The band’s dedication to their craft extends beyond music production to Caitlin’s involvement in photography and music video direction, ensuring a deeply personal and visually captivating approach to their art as Corlyx gears up for the release of their next single and the upcoming record in 2024!

Experience Corlyx + Suzi Sabotage live in Paris on Saturday, May 4th, at Supersonic Records (9 Rue Biscornet, 75012 Paris, France).

Corlyx – Neue Single / Video "Ghost Of The West Coast"

„Ghost Of The West Coast“ kann ab sofort hier angehört werden: https://corlyx.lnk.to/GhostOfTheWestCoast.

‘The Fall’
Independent
1 July 2023
2021 saw the release of the The Fall, the third studio album from Frontal Boundary. With that also came a lineup change with the introduction of Krz Souls (Dawn of Ashes, INVA//ID, Bornless Fire,) to the band. Krz has stepped up to perform vocal duties with Brendin playing synth.

With The Fall, the band is coming into their own with their sound. Having similar backgrounds in music, the combination of Krz and Brendin produces haunting Melodie’s and driving beats. To quote Brendin; “Frontal Boundary has been around since about 2006, and working with Krz on this project really feels like Frontal Boundary is complete. Everything just flows so well, and ideas are always abundant.”
