40 years ago Rodney Orpheus, Paul Dillon, and Andy Booth got together in a basement in Leeds, England with a collection of cheap second-hand guitar pedals, synthesisers, and drum machines, and created a post-punk revolution in sound with songs like Moscow Idaho, One Millionth Happy Customer, and Nightfall, which filled alternative dancefloors and topped Indie charts around the world.

In 1993 they released the album Sex & Death to a limited audience. Now, 30 years later, the band have re-recorded this classic record from scratch as Death & Sex and it will finally achieve a worldwide release for the first time as part of their 40-year anniversary celebrations.

Death & Sex features the original founders of the band Rodney Orpheus (vocals, synths, drum machines) and Andy Booth (guitar), with long-time additional members Chris Haskett (Henry Rollins Band, David Bowie) on guitar and Mera Roberts (Faith and the Muse, Black Tape for a Blue Girl) on cello, plus new member Brent Heinze (Probe 7) on keyboards.

The album, along with many other classic songs from the entire 40-year back catalog of The Cassandra Complex, will be featured on the forthcoming CX40 world tour beginning in the UK in March, and taking in shows in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Czech Republic, Austria, Latin America, and the USA throughout 2024.

Christian Petke, CEO of COP International Records says, “When the band told me that they would start to re-record their back catalog, I was 100% on board. It can be a dicey proposition to “fix” an old record, but I knew that they had the experience and the skill to pull this off. It was a real pleasure to see these classic gems come to new life, and the fans of The Cassandra Complex will love this fresh take.”

The underground music community is rallying around Charles Levi, the thunderous bass force behind My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult, Pigface, and more, with the release of the compilation “Retronomicon.” Levi, a titan in the industrial scene, can be heard on the soundtracks for CoolWorld and The Crow.

Sadly, Levi is facing some tough times: namely, vascular dementia- which has led to leg amputation, as well as daily kidney dialysis and neuropathy that affects the motor function of his fingers. A veritable who’s who of North American electronic and industrial artists, each putting their own twist on the synth-laden tracks that defined an era, have created the album Retronomicon as a sonic salute to Levi. The album is a modern reimagining of the sounds that Levi helped pioneer, all while throwing a lifeline his way.

Singer James Clark says, “‘Sleep With the Devil,’ lyrically, deals with the struggle of addiction and the daily fight to stay sober. Fenriz explains the origins of the band: "Kolbotn is a hilly forest-y place directly south of Oslo, Norway. When Ole Jørgen and Olav and me grew up there in the 80s we had easy access to all the metal in the massive amounts of record stores in Oslo. Olav and Ole Jørgen started playing doom metal together in the 90s (Lamented Souls) but in 2020 they teamed up again and making riffs in the slow thrash/doom/classic heavy metal style. When the songs started to take form, Ole Jørgen took his place on the drum throne and soon started to record them. Wanting it to be a 100% Kolbotn project, they asked if I wanted to lay down vocals for it and after a couple of sessions in 2021 and 2022 COFFIN STORM was born."

Apollyon adds “Me and Bestial Tormentor have been playing together since we met in college in 1990 and formed the doom metal act Lamented Souls. However with most members being busy with other bands LS kind of faded away. Our last rehearsal was around 2007.

After I had stopped playing live with Aura Noir we decided to meet up weekly and play guitar together. It was not going to be Lamented Souls and we had no serious plans of any kind. – but as songs were starting to emerge I switched to drums and we made recordings that Bestial Tormentor played to Fenriz, who apparently approved! I would never have dared to ask him to do the vocals! I was considering doing them myself but he was secretly our first choice. Fortunately Bestial Tormentor popped the question and he said yes, so we recorded 3 songs with an extra pair of drum mics(4 in total )in the rehearsal place. Added bass and guitar in my house and went to Fenriz’ to record the vocals. Then we had two more sessions before the album was finished.

Initially I was assuming the music would be doom metal .I think all of us had "Epicus Doomicus Metallicus" in mind but even if our songs are slow/mid tempo, the riffs ended up being more thrashy than I had expected. Only the title track is pure doom simply because it’s a song me and Bestial Tormentor made some 20 years ago that we were über eager to hear Fenriz’ ravishing vocal lines on."

And so the first fruits of their toil manifest in the form of debut album, ‘Arcana Rising’, with a sterling concoction of classic heavy metal, slow thrash and doom. The result is a torrent of rousing, accomplished titanic riffing from both Apollyon & Bestial Tormentor, commandeered by Fenriz’s unmistakable vocal prowess as witnessed with his own Isengard project as well as multiple Darkthrone releases, with vocal inspiration summoned from bands such as Agent Steel.

Mastering work was completed by Jack Control at Enormous Door (Darkthrone), and cover art appears courtesy of Polish artist Maciej Kamuda.

Vocalist Laura explains: ""Fortress“ is our ode to the female creation, trying to capture the vast forces of nature into tender words, which are showing the maternal creator both caressing and powerful. The words of the chorus are dated in 814 and slightly changed so it’s no longer a prayer to god, but the mother god-like speaking to have built the skies and earth, vowing her protection."

Balance Breach, one of the key players in the Finnish metalcore scene, has shown over the years that they’re willing to do whatever it takes to break into the global metal scene. The band has played determinedly around Finland independently and in the most essential venues while supporting bands such as Normandie, Lost Society, and Bloodred Hourglass. During the past couple of years, Balance Breach has had a few shows in Germany, supporting Wargasm (UK) in a club show, playing in the Summer Breeze Open Air Festival, and participating in the indoor festival Mosh City Berlin. In spring 2023, the band visited England for the first time, performing in a Takedown Festival headlined by Sleep Token and Loathe. Balance Breach will take a strong start to 2024 by releasing new music with the catchiest choruses, smashing elements, and mesmerizing guitar melodies that the band has delivered so far. Today, Combichrist release their new single and video, "Planet Doom," blending industrial metal’s intensity with the eerie allure of classic slasher horror films! This new offering pays tribute to the cinematic genre that has deeply influenced the band’s music. "Planet Doom" emerges as a unique creation, deeply rooted in Andy LaPlegua’s passion for horror films that blurs the lines between music, social commentary, and cinematic art.

Directed by Ben Winston, known for his work on “Hellbound,” the "Planet Doom" video is a visual feast for fans of gore, slasher films, and anyone who appreciates the art of storytelling through music videos in a way that only Combichrist can.

Andy LaPlegua, the visionary behind Combichrist, shares, "This video was nothing less than a passion project for me. Horror movies is a huge part of my life and influences the way I write music as well. The idea for this video started as a tribute to the movies that I loved as a kid and still love today. A lot of homage to the classics in this video. The video was shot through 3 cold November nights in Alabama, by Ben Winston, a great and upcoming movie director. It was all shot the way they used to do it. Low budget, all shot on 16mm film, and all practical special effects, all to get it that late 70’s early 80’s slasher look and feel. The lyrics of the song and the video really have no association at all, except from the title. Both works as a stand alone idea of a doomed planet: one in a form of a slasher video based on the movies we love, and the other a social documentary of the world we live in. Divided, biased, fear mongering, judgmental, an hateful religious society. The biggest question now is, when do we do the actual movie?"

The chorus, "Burn burn burn – burn it down – watch it all come crashing down," serves as a powerful rallying cry against the backdrop of a society fracturing under the weight of its own contradictions.

Low-Budget, alles auf 16-mm-Film gedreht, und alles mit praktischen Spezialeffekten, um den Slasher-Look der späten 70er und frühen 80er Jahre zu vermitteln. Der Text des Liedes und das Video haben eigentlich überhaupt keinen Bezug zueinander, außer dem Titel. Beide funktionieren als eigenständige Idee eines dem Untergang geweihten Planeten: das eine in Form eines Slasher-Videos, das auf den Filmen basiert, die wir lieben, und das andere als soziale Dokumentation der Welt, in der wir leben. Eine gespaltene, voreingenommene, Angst verbreitende, verurteilende und hasserfüllte religiöse Gesellschaft. Die größte Frage ist jetzt, wann wir den eigentlichen Film machen?“

Der Chorus „Burn burn burn – burn it down – watch it all come crashing down“ dient dabei als kraftvoller Slogan vor dem Hintergrund einer Gesellschaft, die unter der Last ihrer eigenen Widersprüche zerbricht.

Today, Enslaved have released the alternative version of their track ‘Forest Dweller‘, featuring internationally acclaimed composer and virtuoso cellist Jo Quail, alongside a beautiful visualizer video created by Costin Chioreanu.

"It is an absolute honour to have Jo Quail on these special versions of ‘Forest Dweller’ and ‘Congelia’. We are all big fans of her unique work and style; I have personally had the pleasure of working with her for some time through By Norse Music (the label co-founded with Einar Selvik and our manager Simon Füllemann). When we had the chance to invite guest artists for the release show in Bergen of ‘Heimdal’ back in March 2023, Jo Quail was a given. She blew our (and the audience’s) collective minds with her powerful interpretation and performance on ‘Forest Dweller’ and ‘Congelia’ – to the degree that it simply could not be the end of the story. She has a take on her art that is one of a kind – impossible to categorise, haunting, emotive and atmospheric; we feel that this version of us joining forces underlines the artistic and musical kinship we feel being present between our two camps. "I’ve long been a fan of Enslaved, and I have huge admiration for the way their masterful compositions broaden and deepen with each release. When the band invited me to collaborate I had to re-read the email several times! I was honoured and humbled by this invitation from a band so greatly revered by so many of us all over the world, and I was tremendously excited by the chance to explore our sonic worlds together. Enslaved are the same people on and off stage, which is not always a given, and it’s something that, in my opinion, translates in their music and performance – the connection with their audience in concert draws us in deeply and it’s nothing short of inspiring. It was an absolute honour to be invited by Enslaved to perform Forest Dweller and Congelia with them in March 2023. I approached these two quite diverse tracks with immense respect, as both were already fully developed and everything sat perfectly and exactly where it needed to be, so any contribution from me needed to underpin or enhance the existing story arc rather than divert from it. Enslaved are musically very generous; they were wholly supportive of my suggestions for cello parts, and the result was a collaboration that I shall treasure for all time. I’m thrilled that this now has life beyond that one very special concert, and I hope you enjoy the result!"
